Steve
Do what I did and solder your own tabs on. Get 3V battery from Rat Shack and solder them on. Be sure you check out mods.dk
for info on how to do this.

If you can't fine a welded one, and there is room, consider just putting a cell in a holder and soldering the holder in place.

I would strongly recommend you do NOT solder your own tabs to the battery. Heating the battery up to make a good solder connection can at best shorten the life of the batery and at worst cause it to leak or rupture. The best course of action is to replace the battery with a battery holder, if you don't want to do that, instead of spending $1.50 at Wal Mart for the battery, go to a place like Batteries Plus and spend $3 for the battery, they will spot weld solder tabs on for you at no extra charge.

ad6zu-- I have heard what you said for years however I also have been working with batteries for years and have never had what you said occur. Perhaps if one applies too much heat it is a possibility. For 20 years I have worked with nicad, nihi, and lithium batteries and with good results.

I think the possible problem with soldering directly to cells is that you can damage the seal, which won't cause an immediate problem, but can be a long-range problem due to the loss of the electrolyte.
The tab welding is done with a capacitor-discharge welder ( see the tiny dots) which does the welding w/o a lotta heating of the metal.
Soldering to the small (plus) terminal will work, but can greatly shorten the cell life.
Any comments?

I agree with you Tom. Usually if I can I will use the tabs off the old cell and use them for the new one. If unable then will run my tab from the center or close to center for soldering. I never solder close to the seal. Additionally I will cut the old tabs and leave them in the circuit board and solder my tabs onto the old ones.

Do you need one that mounts horizontal or vertical? And do you have the battery type? I have a couple of CR2032 vertical mount batteries with welded tabs left over from an earlier project. If that's what you need email me.

Hi Steve, if all the suggestions and offers don't work I have a new in the package RENATA Swiss made CR2325RH tab mount 3V lithium battery. I bought it for my 751 and didn't need it. I just opened the package and it measures 3.24 volts no load. Ken
