View Full Version : Fly your Flag on the 4th!
I know that the rule is that when a President dies, you fly the flags at half mast as a matter of respect for a period of 30 days.
President Regan died on the 5th which would require us to fly our flags at half mast through the celebration of our independence.
I think if President Regan had the choice, he would rather see that flag all the way up the flagpole on the 4th of July.
That’s where mine will be with no disrespect to the late president, his family or my country.

That rule only applies to the government, individuals may fly their flags at full staff.

Instead of flying your flags only on holidays. why not fly them YEAR ROUND?
Have a good Field Day everyone!

We do just that!
Nice to work you on 6 the other day Scott! Nice signal!
Chris
Just replaced the flag, that has been flying 24 hours a day since 9-11, with a new one.

W0LC, I love running into people on QRZ that i've talked to on the air! You had a great signal up here too! Hopefully we'll see more conditions like last weekend.
Speaking of replacing flags, there is a proper way to retire the colors. The AF Drill Team at the University of Illinois has been collecting flags around the community and retiring them for the past year or so. If anyone wants to retire their flag properly and doesn't mind paying a few dollars to ship it, we would be more than happy to do it. Let me know if interested.
Scott
Likewise, most vet organizations, and most military bases will take care of the retirement of older flags also.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Have been flying the flag for numerous years...replacing it when it STARTS to get worn or faded...price was never an option.
Proud to be an AMERICAN ( in some ways I am TOO proud !! )
