http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I have no 6 meter transmitters for am/fm or ssb ...BUT...I do listen to 52.525 FM on the one scanner I still have hooked up to an outside antenna...I have been recieving EAST TEXAS stations this morning around 10 - 12 noon...but nothing this afternoon.

If I can hear it on a scanner, imagine the conditions with a decent rig and beam antenna !!

Good luck...some folks around here used to use 50.125 and 50.225 ssb...but that was around the year 2000 when I HAD some 6 meter transmitters...mostly 50.125 to 50.150

have fun !! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Ten meters was also wonderfully open around the same time. The local 10-X net had seven out-of-state check-ins last night (normally there are none, due to the declining sunspot cycle).

To Oklahomasteel and other 6mtr ops,

Worked a guy from Minnisota to my mobile in Okla. City last night. It was armchair ragchew copy for at least 10 minutes before and after our QSO with signals up to S9 on my TS2000 and mobile magmount whip.

wf7i.Congrats with the mobile antenna contact.Well i thought i had my stereo problem fixed, but alas,i am still wrecking havoc with feedback through the speakers.I think i really need to get the loop in the air and get away from this vertical tri-band.

Larry,

Also the QSO was at 10:30 local time. I was in Edmond driving towards OKC at 65 MPH!

I love 6m. Was very active on it at my previous QTH and had a 3 element yagi up 40ft. I had the WAS award except for one state -- KY! Now I've moved and have to start over!

A local OKC op was talking about how you can get WAS on 6m with nothing more than a dipole when conditions are good. I think that loop of yours would be great, and in fact I'd like to get one for my truck.

For those of you new to 6m, this is a good day to get on. There are plenty of field day stations active on 50.125 and above. I just heard Phoenix (DM41 area) from Oklahoma City a few minutes ago while in the mobile. Conditions are good and ops are on the air!

Delbert, here is a link to wb5jio's antennas.Give him a call and order one for 2m and one for 6m.They are inexpensive as far as i'm concerned.

6m has been great today! With a simple homebrew dipole and 5-10W operating inside of my 2nd floor apartment, I've worked 6 states in an hour's time (and not very serious operating). I also worked a couple states via the mobile.

I'm hearing both coasts and just about everything in between. Fantastic!

And Larry, thanks for the antenna info, I will check it out.

Finally! I work a field day and 6 is open.

My club is in EM64 (north Alabama) and around dusk on Saturday 6 opened up like gangbusters. I don't have all of the grids in front of me, but some sections I worked were:

NLI
ENY
EMA
WMA
NNJ
ND
WWA

Also got a couple of Victor Echos IIRC.

A guy in my club whipped up a loop in about 30 minutes on a whim, and sure enough it came in handy. We strung it up at about 25 feet and I managed to work stations coast to coast. Oh how I love the magic band.

I worked 7 states on 5 W from inside my apartment in about 1 hour! Many signals were S-8 or S-9.

I've got .125 on now and still here some voices coming and going.

If you don't mind sharing, what kind of setup do you have for your apartment on 6? I'm a fellow apartment dweller and have ordered the MFJ QRP rig for 6 but haven't come up with an antenna setup yet.

ERU:

I'm running nothing more than a simple speaker-wire dipole fed with some rg-8 "mini-foam" stuff. #I tried to keep it in the clear as much as I could and put it in front of my window. #I'm in a 2nd floor apartment which may help some (not sure if it matters). #I get about 3:1 or so with it and can't really get any better than that with all the indoor reflections and stuff. #I keep the power to 5W so as not to get trouble from neighbors.
