http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Congratulations on the first 6 meter contact, Larry! Yeah, it can be very fun when there is a band opening, otherwise, with a modest setup, "local" contacts of 200 miles or more are quite common. I got my 6 meter loop from a guy in Tulsa that makes them. If you would like info. about these loops just email me. Good luck with 6. You will enjoy it.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Hey, Larry. Yeah, good ole Howard. I've got his (well, mine now! ) 6 meter loop, 2 meter square loop, and 70cm square loop. There was a 2 meter band opening a few weeks ago and I was in southeast Oklahoma visiting family, and I had the 2 meter loop inside my mom's house about 7 feet off of the ground, and talked to Hemphill, TX, about 190 miles away. That was pretty neat. Another time, I was mobile in Antlers, Oklahoma, and I talked with NØLIE just over the Kansas border. Not too bad. I almost never have the antenna on the car though http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif The radio I use is an FT-100. My power supply is not here, but maybe we will chat on the air sometime.

nope it ain't for a tv.I also talk to George n0lie in liberty kansas occasionally as he and Howard are pretty good friends. If you want to try 2m ssb, just let me know when and where, prefferably after 2:30 pm.At home i use a

In 1965 I homebrewed a 15 watt AM 6 meter transmitter and built a Heathkit 6 meter converter to go ahead on my Drake 2-B receiver. I put up a 5 element 6 meter beam at about 35 ft. That year and into 1966, 6 meters was hot from my QTH in eastern Ohio. Worked stations all across the south and southwest. Worked one guy in Georgia who was running a Heathkit 6er (about 3/4 watt output) into a dipole and he was 59 + . I think it was the most fun I've ever had as a ham. Ray
That it is Larry. 6 meters offers the magic of VHF and HF rolled into one band!
I worked a good number of individuals with verticals, rotatable dipoles, dipoles, loops, halos, etc. yesterday as the band was open!
6 meters is very addicitive and one thing, no one worries about license class either! We just have fun!

Congrats Larry and welcome to the magic band. #It looks like this summer is going to be a good one for the band if last weekend is any indication. #You are following the same progression that I did a year ago, tri band vert to a loop (and later to a small beam). #I don't think you can go wrong with one of Howard's loops and even after you put up a beam you'll find you need the loop to listen for openings (and often to talk off of while you swing the beam). #You might want to check out a nice 6 meter chat / spotting site www.dxers.info
