It appears that most of the new threads are about ANY thing and every thing but / except amateur radio. Look down the list of threads and SEE for your self.

Such a wide variety of topics like I have never before seen, just look and see for your self.

The fact that every thing but Amateur radio is offered #as a topic of discussion might lead some one to believe that with the majority being NCT's that they are simply unaware of the History and Traditions and the exact nature of Amateur Radio, so they choose other topics to discuss.Individual mileage may vary.

I think it is because everyone is getting really concerned about a lot of things going on around us...and as Amateur Radio Operators we are a little more aware of international geography and even maybe current events...

Maybe QRZ needs a "TOPICAL OINTMENT"! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
How about checking out Kerry's Daughter at Cannes:

Now how about those Bush twins again?

Maybe it's because, as one ham put it recently on QRZ, "ham radio is boring."

This is just proof that Amateur operators do not just talk about radio when they are on the radio. The name of this forum, the last time I checked, is "Talk and Opinions" so, to me that leaves it open to topics that do not have to deal exclusively with radio. I think that's OK. We interact and learn about each other as well as the topic du jure. (sic?)
Yes there are a lot of concerns and we do indeed live in interesting times so it is just normal that people, who for the most part are, Amateur radio operators, will discuss the events that affect us all.
OR do you just want a signal report? OK here goes, 5 by 9, 5 by 9. EM84. 73 de KG4CGC.next?
Yes, I did not do that right but you get the point, I'm sure.
I've learned a lot about radio and people here on this forum as well as what many people are thinking about current events.
Thanks Everyone, Seventy Thirds http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

What a cool reply! ! ! !

Wulhellya there's a diversity of topics. #Thank goodness! #That's what attracted me to amateur radio......talking with a bunch of guys about wildly varying subjects. #And it didn't hurt if it was somebody a few hundred miles away. #In this forum, I get the (cheap) thrill of talking to a segment of the amateur radio family I don't catch on the air.

WORKS FOR ME.

And you make many mindless posts in every one of them, Bobby!

As a matter of fact, you start many of the off topic threads.

Maybe it would be worth noting how many "Hot Topics" there have been of late. I don't think I've ever seen so many Red Envelopes on the front page of Talk and Opinions. The other day it was hard to find any blue envelopes.

People are motivated to post on these "Off Topic" threads because they are interesting and pertinant and weighty.

And if my perceptions are correct, the threads and posts of late are much more "cerebral" that the usual mix of mindless musings.

Not that there isn't plenty of room for mindlessness, mind you, but I find it refreshing to read so much thoughtful and articulate posts. I quickly tire of mindless mutter. Nice to see some neurons at work for a change.

Now, what was it you were saying, Bobby?

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ...yea you have noticed what ? Oh, you have noticed the fact that " most of the negative statements that are made TOWARD you are by folks that :
1) are either from the east coast and/or the midwest geographically

2) tend to be either n c t or general class ( very few extra )... they are so few & far between that they are just glad to have another EXTRA class operator to talk to on the internet ( especially one as wise as you Bobby, that takes a real man to only miss 3 questions on that real hard EXTRA class exam. and that is why those GENERALS are so jealous of you !! )

3) the negative posts tend to occur more often on the second half of the first page and continue well past the second page, and between 6 pm & midnight local time.

For a Woman, she is mighty observant !!

Now go fix me a biscuit or two with some sausage for break fast and let me sign your message with MY call sign.

Your friends are well advised not to make anymore negative statements towards me anymore!

Bobby,

Congratulations on the Extra Class license. #Now, give it a rest, K? #Most of us don't regard an Extra Class license to be our crowning lifetime achievement. #Some of us don't even give it a thought. #No offense.

Bobby,

That line's about 3 years old. #You need to sit down with YO and KXQ and see if there's enough neurons between the three of you to come up with some new material.

By the way, been kinda quiet on 55 lately. #I like it that way! And so do a lot of other folks. Just keep it that way, K?

Thanks

She's not that attractive and all you guys seem to zone in on is what is below the neck.

She's got too much of her looks from dad and that is a scary thought.

Do not forget to write your anti-BPL letters,
encourage new amateur radio participation and generally be nice
to one another. That is all.

Now doggone it.

Show a little respect.

Even though she is showing the poorest
of judgment by showing up to a big
press event with all her "stuff" showing
she is still the daughter of a man who may possibly
be our next president.

I haven't seen too much about this in the press here at home.

I wonder what would have happened if one of Bush's girls had worn a dress like that. I think the press would have worked themselves into a mouth foaming frenzy.
