Young Mr.Powell is in bed with big money where ever its source may be. It is too bad that, that is how his job is defined in raising money for the gubment.

"All of this begs the question: Just what does FCC chairman Michael Powell think of May sweeps? Is he shocked? Appalled? Does he worry that our nation’s children will be infected by this semi-annual wave of prurient programming?"

He thinks what he's told to think. He's a tool and any excuse to prosper his narrow minded and neo-conservative outlook he will take. Don't be suprised if you see some more un-Constitutional action by the FCC in the coming months. At the very least I'm sure they'll whine about it with the usual excuses of social detriment and kids turning into raving sex maniacs as a result of a TV or radio show. Although, if it causes any interference to big business interests then I'm sure that he'll back off.
Freedom of the press, and the concept of The First Amendment, means nothing to these close-minded religious extremists. They seems to think that television and radio aren't part of the press because they have an agenda to prosper. Spooky.

Yup, more messed up logic.

They will nail Howard Stern to the wall for borderline content on his RADIO MORNING show, but I guess anything flies on prime time TV when the kids are watching.

Very hypocrytical if you ask me, but it's nothing new.

1) the enforcement that the FCC does do

or

2) the enforcement that the FCC does NOT do

some folks you can never make happy; they gripe if the rules get enforced, and they moan and gripe if the rules do not get enforced...there is NO happy medium.

just be thankful you are in a nation where you CAN gripe without being taken out back and shot, or would you rather BE there...if you can't stand it here in the USA, then go/leave/vamoose/scram/git ; move it -- today,

I still don't get the whole Janet Jackson thing; there was no nipple exposure since it was covered by that stupid little jewel she was wearing, it lasted two freakin' seconds and most people didn't see it until it was replayed ten million times by the morons at Fox News and CNN. Now I have to listen to radio shows that have been the same for twenty years tip toe around issues that any 1st grader has heard on the playground because some hardcore bible thumper was offended? Time to run these communistic and socially retarded morons out of office, in the FCC and beyond.

I sure can. Exposure of flesh is exposure of flesh whether it is
in your post or mine. A band-aid over 5% of a breast still is
rather graphic. MSNBC was being as soft porn as the "SUN".
Can you explain how your rant is more justified than mine? You liberals seem to think that you have
a God given right to distort truth, make up lies, and fix
the blame on conservatives. I did not see one complaint from
you when Klinton was caught cavorting with an intern.
You were one of those who defended him, were't you?
You only have a sense of outrage when liberals are caught
doing something stupid. If Ms. Kerry did not want her picture
taken in that immodest attire, she would not have worn in
public. I think that you will find that while the "Sun" is a
tabloid paper in the UK, it is no worse than what you probably
gawk at while standing in line at your supermaket.
Besides, you miss the whole point, as liberal would,
you and your cohorts take real joy in damning the President's
daughters when they were acting like typical college students.
You try to damn the President about his National Guard
service while saying that it is patriotic to to question things
like this. So if the Bush twins got drunk a few times and it was a bifg deal to you liberals, then why is it that a total
indiscretion of a Presidential Candidate's daughter just as much fair game? Or questioning Kerry's actual war record and
mostly his voting record such a bad thing?
Because it jacks you liberals jaws and you think that isn't so nice when it happens to you, Bucko!
Have a nice day, sir.
Besides, I am only in this because nobody on QRZ wants to
discuss ham radio.

05-19-2004, 03:47 PM
Oh no, someone saw a boob or two; if that's the worst thing your kids see in life you'll be lucky.
As far as the post about 'you liberals', you're assuming that anyone that posts criticisms to the current administration, or little Colin Powell Junior over there at the FCC, is strictly liberal in the fake liberal democratic party sense. Use some common sense and logic instead of always towing the party line. Criticism is not necessarily partisan, it's just criticism. Over and over I see these stereotypes about what one groups thinks or does; that attitude is what it causing most of the division and intolerance in this country.
By the way, if you've ever bothered to go beyond the Talk & Opinions forum there is plenty on QRZ to learn and discuss about amateur radio. This is an opinion forum for people sharing the bond of radio and not strictly a radio forum, obviously.

Just what part of your anatomy did you pull that assumption out of?

Last time I looked I was a registered Republican. #I could care less what Kerry or his family do, I'm confident that none of them will ever live in the White House.

Seems to me my only complaint was your posting a link to a revealing photo of a woman. #It had no place in this discussion nor indeed at this web site period. #The link I posted was to a topical article, involving actions or inactions of the folks that regulate our hobby/service/way of life.

BTW, it is 'Clinton," and I wasn't impressed with the amount of my tax dollars spent trying to find out if he had sex or not. #I really didn't care and outside of his wife, no one else should have either.

One more thing. #Copying's SY's HAW and OUT is weak at best. #It wasn't funny when he did it and it is less so when you do it. Try to be more original.

Now, dig deep and come back with whatever poorly organized attempt at a reply that you can come up with, and this time, try to include facts, not just personal attacks that are more suited to elementary school playgrounds.

So your url is good and mine is bad. So be it, RINO.
That is Republican in name only. #That must be true because
you seem to think that you have the license to send us to
a disgusting scene and then complain when someone else does likewise. #Your replies are those of a sub-cretin and not worthy having facts sent to a an open-mouth closed brain
individual. I will use HAW and OUT wherever and when ever I please. The only weak things around here are your lame arguments and baseless criticism. Go get a life!
Don't be such a spoiled sport about the responses you get to

I've never flip flopped on the issue of censorship; the government has no right to tell a free press what they can and can't say, the people make the determination through support or lack thereof.
My comment was directed at the idiotic name calling and insults (including your stupid stereotype about me being a liberal yadda yadda) instead of just discussing the issue. If you can't discuss an issue without resorting to that sort of conduct you may have bigger issues than what your kids see on TV. Most of the topics on QRZ are discussed and people agree to disagree. Give it a rest already with the BS stereotypes and insults; it adds nothing. buhbyenow...

YCO, You have flip-flopped like a windshield wiper.
You want your kids looking at JJ's mammary, then you have
the large issues to deal with. You're the one who stereotypes
those of us who take issue with your nonsensical "First
Amendment Rights". Flesh flashing on prime time during a
song of seduction, lewdness and prurient language is the
kind of freedom of speech that only Larry Flint, and evidently
yourself, would care to defend. Our country's forefathers were a lusty and hard drinking bunch, but they at least observed some modicum of discretion about their "activities".
You and ECI seem to have the view that it should all hang out
and if the rest of us do not like it, tough!
You seem to have some stereotyping issues of your own, sir.
Mean while, you can go on expressing your views of liberty
with out responsibily. I will go on questioning your beliefs,
if you put them out for discussion.
Toodles and have a nice day!

Poor little ECI-Poo! Still believing that your incorrect assertion

that you, as the originator of this thread, steered us all to
a site that had the infamous JJ shot. You still think that your
sensationalism is just while any other sensationalism is unjust?
You seem to forget the rest of what went on with that JJ shot; Prime time at Super Bowl when millions of families world wide were watching a suggestive dance and and a blatantly
sexual song being performed. Then you bring it up again,
here, on what you refer to a family oriented reflector.
This, while chastising me for doing likewise with a UK News-
paper article. You, sir, are being hypocritical and arrogant to
an infinite extreme..
Your biggest problem is that you, like all Neo-Coms, don't
stand up well to arguement. Why? Because your original

And don't worry, I won't be leaving you anytime soon. I love it here in the Sunny South and it's good to know that we're within a stones throw of each other. Howdy Neighbor!
# You're totally correct about Latin television. Just gotta love Telemundo and Univision! I also like looking at Denise Austin in the morning. Man, that woman does NOT look anywhere near her age http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif !
# "the
Varsity, Bass Fishing, Grits, NASCAR, SCCA Racing."
All great stuff. I like a little bacon in my grits though.
Best grits I ever had was when I was 13 years old. One morning while riding home from Florida on a Greyhound bus, we stopped at a little hole in the wall Mom-n-Pop restaurant in the middle of nowhere in south Georgia. Honest to goodness home made grits. Heaven! These days, it's damn near impossible to find a place ANYWHERE that uses something other than that instant crap. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif #Sure do miss those grits.
# Now if you want to talk about bass fishing, I got to tell you, we have got some spectacular bass here between North Carolina and Georgia from Lake Jocassee to Lake Keowee to Lake Hartwell. Not to mention all the little stuff in between. We always catch and release UNLESS we're camping. I take the camera with me though so we can prove that we caught "The Big One".
# Nascar and SCCA are great too. Got a Ham friend that I went to high school with that lives in Atlanta now. He and his brother are building an SCCA car and soon they will be driving it. It has pretty much taken over his life but that's what happens when it gets in your blood.
# Well Cal, that was your group hug ya Big Lug. Hope it gets in your blood and spreads like wildfire! Can everyone feel the love? Brothas and Sistas can I get an AMEN? Can I get an AWOMAN too? Gotta be equal you know. (Robin Williams 1978)
# Spread the love everywhere you go Brothas and Sistas. Life is too short for piddly crap. Too short for sexism, racism and all the other "isms" . Something a few posts back was misunderstood and somehow confusion set in, in my opinion.
# Can't we all just get along? (Rodney King)
We have such advanced technology at our fingertips yet sometimes we forget to feel the love.

Yeah, I think that lady is tougher than Chinese Arithmetic!
She reminds of an aerobics instructor I had a few years back.
This lady was not only tough, but she was really tough!
She got pregnant three different times and kept beating us
guys up in class (No mercy at all) well into her third trimester,
just a few days before delivery day! She would always be back beating us mercilessly into submission before a month
was over from her delivery! Do you realize just how embarrassing it is to have a pregnant woman make mincemeat out of you in an aerobics class? Neither did the
bunch of us in her class. We stayed with her until her husband got transferred out of town. She was so tough
that on her middle pregnancy she ran the Peachtree Road Race while seven months pregnant! The Peachtree is a fun
little 10k road race always held on July 4th in Atlanta.
Yup, she was one tough lady. I miss those workouts, too.

Well, I see not much happened with this thread besides presumptions and generalizations by mister JSR. Again I have to ask, why can't you discuss without insults or presumptions of what you think I know or think? If you don't agree with free press and free speech, or even me personally, then just say so, no need to be an *&@$#! about it. (That bulls**t line about 'freedom with responsibility' is, and always has been a cop out to avoid the real issue.)
So go ahead and berate me, I've never changed my opinion on this issue once (the government has no right to tell a free press what content they can and can't provide, that's parents and society's job, not the government's job to babysit) and I defy you to prove me wrong on this flip flop crap, which of course you can't do because I never did.
Go ahead and tow the party line and let them tell you what to think (that goes for both parties), and live in your world of stereotypes and insults (those that can't discuss hit), I for one could care less. But do us all a favor and try to act civil, we can discuss without resorting to the type of conduct that you have displayed here. ...buhbyenow...
