I'd appreciate your help:

A countryman of mine pretends to be a radio amateur. He keeps getting 'rumbled' on QRZ.com as a phoney and then banned.

I suppose his fantasies of hamdom are harmless enough but he doesn't stop there. He goes out of his way to annoy people. Sadly it doesn't stop there. He becomes cyber brave. Some weeks ago ( using one of his bogus QRZ aliases ) he promised to come to my home town and 'get' me. He hasn't arrived yet. That's a fine example of the make-believe world the guy inhabits.

He'll find something on the net like my Eham profile and then try to be threatening by telling me things like;

'Your name is Steve' and 'You go fishing'.

Please understand it's not just directed at me. This individual has a need to find conflict.

He did dabble at pretending to be a computer whiz by down-loading some idiot proof forum software. He then set up a pointless site. On the 'make a forum in 3 minutes' support site he got told off for being aggressive. He was also warned for making inappropriate suggestions to some of the male users.

His forum has three members after some weeks. I believe he is now bored and disillusioned. The upset has driven the guy to invent a new phoney call sign. His QRZ aggression tendencies have re-surfaced.

So, how can you guys help?

Is there an amateur physiatrist in the house? Can anyone help me to understand why somebody would behave in such an unsocial manner? Just what is it that would make a man pretend to be somebody he isn't and join a forum in order to find an argument?

Is it a deffieceny thing?

Does it indicate drug / alcohol abuse?


Budding Freuds make your suggestions please. I'm genuinely interested.

I think you just imagine how his life is a ###, and you would feel better.

When he goes to sleep, before closing his eyes, looking at the ceiling, he must be thinking "my life is a ###". Then his wife (if any...) turns to him and asks "what happens?". He even does not dare telling her the truth, and just replies "Oh my job (if any...) gives me some sorrows". And when he wakes up facing the mirror, although he does some smiles to convince himself he is happy, he understands he is not and his life is ###. He keeps it for himslef, as he is even ashame of it. Years counter is turning, and his life is still ###. Just before to die, he will remember how his life was ###. But he will still be too ashame to ask forgiveness. And he will die like a ### with ### remorses.

Maybe he should seek for help.....

Actually you should try to maintain a merciful and loving
attitude towards this person. Then when he shows up at your front door, smash his face slam off of his head with a
Cricket Bat. Police are not to good at preventing crimes, just
solving them. Even the UK will still let you defend against
someone attacking you in your own home.
Otherwise, in the words of an old song, "Don't go where the
Huskies Go, Don't Eat The Yellow Snow".
Totally stay away from where this guy goes. Don't even offer
to communicate with him. Document everytime he accosts
you for purposes of your own defense.
My personal hero, John Wayne, once said, "Life is tough. It
is a lot tougher if you are stupid!" Let the other guy be
stupid. Simple! Not easy.

Certain people of certain mentalities like any attention they can get, good or bad. These are the same folk who will intentionally interfere with ongoing QSOs on the air. The internet is an even better playground than the airwaves because for every 10 people that ingnore them, there will be one that will give him much desired attention.

Personally, I try and not sink down to their level. I have had previous experiances with the person you speak of also.

This person has e-mailed me 3 times.... if anyone remembers that Spain thread, that was who I was talking about, at least, according to G7HEU... The way they talked on this recent thread was almost identical to the e-mails I received.

I'm all for a nice level-headed discussion or debate, but it shows a lack of intelligence and maturity to personally attack someone.

One of my fave. qoutes is,
"Always give your best, never get discouraged, never be petty; always remember others may hate you, but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself."

I try to go by it.

Agree with KOE. It's low self-esteem and a need to get attention. #Unfortunately, guys like that rub one to many people too often and end up in a grave because they ran into someone crazier then them.

It isn't worth your effort and enjoy the hobby and ignore the internet comments that are flames or troll.

Best suggestion I can offer is ignore him and don't post more comments about him. People like that thrive on the attention and the more you give them, the more they like it. The same goes for repeater kerchunkers, pirates, troublemakers of all sorts; ignore them and they usually go away. If they don't go away then *&amp;%^$ %&amp;@@ %@$#%!% @%#$&amp;*( &amp;^($&amp; ^# between the eyes with a claw hammer. Best of luck
