View Full Version : Need help in MD
Recently retired, I am seeking an Elmer/group to help me refresh into current practices/bands. I haven't been active since #the mid-90's and my Icom-720 isn't what I want. Can anyone/any club point me in a direction that could help me get active again? I live in Harford County and have time on my hands. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, one of the first things I'd try is to go out the the ARRL's website and see if they have any listings for clubs in your area. If so, then use the contact information listed to get some info on that club. If that doesn't work, try to contact your ARRL section manager and he/she should have some information on active clubs in your area.

Don't know about Harford County, but here are three links for clubs that can definitely help you out.
www.columbiaara.org
www.larcmd.org
www.bratsatv.org
Get in touch with them. All have help available and welcome you back among the fold with open arms.
I'll take the '720 off your hands! I'll even drive over and pick it up ! ! ! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Seriously, I hope you find an "elmer" close by. Good luck and 73 !

You've already made a great start. There are a lot of
fine people here that are willing to help and answer your
quesitons. As the previous posters have said, contact
the ARRL, your section manager for some help. Best of
luck and don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Or you can just do a search on here for hams in your town or county. I'll bet you'll discover folks you know or neighbours are hams and you never knew!
That IC720, if in working condition, is still a fine rig. It's not the latest, but it'll do the job for you and allow you to spend your money on other new things. Otherwise, I'll find Hartford County MD on the map and drive there as I'd LOVE to have another 720! (I'm kidding really, though if the offer were made . .. )
You are welcome here. There are lots of us who love to help and you should frequent here and get to know us.
Good luck and welcome back.
Jim,
Email me at ac3p@arrl.net. I can give you some information.
