Well, today's the big day...at least according to some. #Will there be an official announcement today about the retention of code? #Anyway, last rumor I heard was the announcement was today, following historical precedent. #Guess we'll see what happens.

To those of us who are self-employed, April 15th has a whole other meaning.
Don't hold your breath. Probably not until after the election and after the Commissioners have dealt with other matters more important from their politically driven viewpoints.
Wouldn't it, as Liza sang, "be loverly" to be proven wrong and have this damned thing settled (at least until the next petition).

Just curious, what historical precedent are you talking about? # When i think of the month of April and CW history, #I always think of the last Coast Guard CW message...1 April 95, if i remember correctly. #I've still got the text of it around here somewhere, i think.

And here it is ........ sort of.
FCC Proposes Wide-Ranging Changes to Amateur Service Rules (http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2004/04/15/102/?nc=1)
Nothing about the changes you were asking about, but this one really caught me off guard......
</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The FCC also has proposed essentially eliminating its rules prohibiting manufacture or marketing of Amateur Radio Service power amplifiers capable of operating between 24 and 35 MHz. Originally put on the books in 1978 to keep high-powered amateur amplifiers out of the hands of CBers, the rules now "impose unnecessary restrictions on manufacturers of Amateur Radio equipment and are inconsistent with the experimental nature of the Amateur Service," the FCC said in its NPRM. The Commission noted that its Part 95 rules governing the Citizens Radio Service already prohibit use of external power amplifiers with CB equipment, which must be FCC certificated.[/QUOTE]<span id='postcolor'>

Gadzooks. I would not have been more surprised had I uncovered a goat turd in my refrigerator.
I sit corrected; in my cynicism, I envisioned a much longer period before any regulatory stirring.

I wasn't referring to a historic precedent with regard to CW, guess it came out wrong. #Just seems april 15th has been the date of announcements/changes. #I haven't been around but for a couple years but it seems to be the case acc'd to some OTs.

And you were correct!
Go back & take another look. You'll find this NPRM is based on petitions filed in early 2002.

W3MIV,
You sir... are starting to crack me up...
Not a good sign...not a good sign indeed.
ROTFL,

Before you pop the champagne, go back and look WHEN the ARRL filed its refarming petition. Thats how long you have to go on the more code debate.

So I see, Robert. Thank you for pointing it out (I think).
Sort of a blank schizoid feeling, you know, to have been right when you would have preferred to be wrong.
I skimmed the ARRL's digest of the notice, and will now labor to peruse it in its splendid entirety. Got a big bottle of NoDoz, fresh pot of Navy coffee, couple toothpicks for the eyelids....

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif if you folks are waiting for SANTA CLAUS or the EASTER bunny... for one you are a few days late and the other wont be around for about 8 months, but not necessarily in the order first presented. While you are waiting, say a little prayer for me, since according to some, I really need it !!---ai4ep---

If you are in need of one, let me know.
I can also supply similar products from cats, dogs, mules, horses, deer, rabbits, raccoons [sp?], opossums, etc.
Actually, there's a fellow here in SC who has cornered the market on jewelry made from plastic encased quail droppings. #He's able to achieve a surprising variety of color and consistency by varying the feed . . .
BTW, the name is Bob . . .

This I like --
"prohibit acceptance of more than one application per applicant per vanity call sign in the interest of promoting "equity and fairness." "
Since I am annoyed with the folks that send in dozens of apps
for a vanity call, sort of like stuffing the raffle box
