Welcome! We are glad to meet you and jump right into the fray here. We all fight like cats and dogs sometimes but we're all glad to be Amateurs and have a place like QRZ where we can exchange ideas.

Hello Matt. Welcome to QRZ talk and opinions forum! Like 4YO said, jump right in. (if you dare http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) Just follow the three simple rules or else Glen, K9STH will suitably chastise you. (He's a down right all around nice guy otherwise)

Other than that, have fun.

Welcome Matt

This is a good forum full of nice, helpful people

When I got married last summer my wife let me take an H.F. radio on honeymoon. I was CT3/M0HEU (FOR ONE HALF DAY ONLY).

Test your fiance and ask her if it's O.K. to take your radio on honeymoon. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

If you ever think that the water is getting a bit deep here, jump on over to the Question and Answer forum. We seem to be much less argumentative over there! But don't take anything too seriously and you will be more than happy you found us!

Best wishes, and I hope we meet on the air some day!

WYO:

Welcome aboard! I am not usually that much of a "Grinch"! But, when someone violates the "rules of the road" of QRZ.com (which the owner of the site, Fred Lloyd, AA7BQ, has set forth), I can "come down" pretty hard!

Those rules are as follows:

No profanity

No obscenities

No personal attacks

The language on this particular forum tends towards the "PG" rating at times rather than the "G" rating that Fred demands on the other forums on this site. However, I expect the language to be on the "G" side of "PG" rather than towards the "R" side. The quickest way to get banned is to either start getting involved in personal attacks on the other people who post on this site or to start using language that is "X" or "NC-17" rated!

If you get really "riled up" about something, I always recommend that you type out your respones but don't hit the "send" key. Come back in a little while, after you have "cooled off", and re-read what you have written. The, re-write your response so that you get your point across without personal attacks or inflaming the situation additionally.

When I am not wearing my "moderator's hat" I am "just one of the boys" and am quite willing for people to disagree with me, agree with me, or take a neutral stance. So long as you obey the "rules" you are most certainly welcome to participate in the discussions. If it isn't quite "clear" as to when I am wearing my "moderator's hat" you can always tell by my signature. If I put "One of the QRZ.com moderators" under my name and call, then everyone knows that I mean what I "say" and do not want any "lip" from anyone (doesn't matter if they agree with me or disagree with me).

But, if I don't put any title under my name, then I am "open" for any, and all, comments so long as they do not get profane, obscene, or personal.

I am probably more "liberal" than several of the other staff members of QRZ.com. As such, I allow a "bit" racier language than that which is allowed elsewhere on QRZ.com. But, other staff members do read the various threads from-time-to-time. If you have to decide whether or not something that you are preparing to post might violate the "rules of the road" then there might just be a good chance that I, or someone else on the staff, might take your post in the "wrong" way. That is definitely a time to rewrite your post so as not to inflame the subject.

I definitely am not trying to "scare" you away! I believe that most of the people who post on this forum and on the other forum that I moderate (Questions & Answers forum) will concede that I am pretty easy to get along with. it is only on those rare occasions that someone violates the "rules of the road" that I have to put on my "moderator's hat" and then I can become very "hard nosed"!

Again, welcome to QRZ.com in general and to the Talk & Opinions forum in particular.

Glen, K9STH
One of the QRZ.com moderators

YO Matt,

Sounds like you got it "goin' on" dude. Good luck with school and the new YL. Congratulations!

Like others have said, don't take things too seriously here. We play kinda rough sometimes, but nobody ever really gets hurt.

We've got a good referee in the center of the ring who isn't afraid to step into the mix and send a contestant to his corner for a cooling off period if one hits below the belt. For most, his HISS is much worse than his bite. For others, he's meanernasnake! And if you force him to go into reptile mode, with one fork of his tongue he'll lick your cheek, and with the other, he'll knock you OUT! We'll try to let you know when you're pushin' him too far. Most of us can sense when Glen's ready to shed his skin.

Nice to have you aboard.

Welcome aboard, Matt. And--PLEASE--be both a brass pounder and a contester. There's never enough WY to go around during CW SS, and it's only 205 days away!

Interesting call. I like it. Im just a few hours north of you in Casper. Hopefully we can meet on 3.9235 (kinda the satewide BS freq) or 7.260.

If your at the university try their radio club. My uncle and aunt (kd7nae and I cant remember the sunts) are the pres and sec. of the club. Good group. We usually go down there and do field day from the snowys.

The thread is four years old and KD7WYO hasn't posted in four years either. Alas, Wyoming remains rarer than a lot of the DXCC list.

Not too long ago, there was a rash of these old postings popping up, along with comments added " and nothing has changed !" or something to that effect. I believe the guy who was resurrecting those posts got banninated !

Hi Matt!
Believe it or not, you are in a RARE state! The rarest of the Western states! If you can get a 6 meter beam up, even a small one will do, you will be the source of massive Pileups of East Coast stations just DYING to work you! Just like being a rare DX only you will be all comfortable at home. Don't want to do 6? Just about any band will do then, whatever you get on, you will be highly sought after and appreciated. Meanwhile, I am from California. EVERYONE in the world has California confirmed, so No one wants to work me. Enjoy your Rare DX Status, Matt! I know of one local ham who just moved up there so he could be a Rare state too!

Most of it is fricken desolate, plus, the constant wind makes for a very high per capita suicide rate... think about it, you can hardly put anything down outside.

The two years I spent there were the longest decade of my life.

Its not TOO bad here. I was born and raised here and have pretty much lived here my whole life but I must say that this winter was the windiest that I can EVER remember,

WE had many days where the wind gusts were over 100mph.

Hell today I got caught in a blizzard and had to kick the truck into 4wheel drive.

But luckily the cold means NO BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!
