(Note.. the MAQP refers to the Mid Atlantic QSO Party which is coming up in May 2004)

Hello, HF my old friend!

Tune around and try some S&P!
Maybe work a net, send QTC!
And the sounds.... of the QSO's

(Bands echo........with the sounds....OF CONTACTS!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Stations far and stations near,
Domestic or DX I hear,
Some are operating ESS ESS BEE
Others packet, others try RITTY
But the mode they call A-1 is something that I love to hear
Nice and clear

(bands echo.. with the sounds.. of signals!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Fin-ally M-A-Q-P!!
Watch out, Here come's Ol 'F-T'
Running stations 6 a min or more!
Racking up a really awesome score!
And the others who hear it know
that one thing they know for sure..
Losing more!

Bands echo... with the sounds.. of contacts!!

THE END!

I like the Rolling Stones. Here's a little parody written to the tune of "Mother's Little Helper" with #appologies to Sir Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones.

"Old Ham's Little Helper"

I hear every old ham say
New hams are different today
That they won't take the time to learn the code
And they do not want to mess
With earning all those privileges
They go runn'n for the shelter
Of the Old ham's little helper
So the new techs they can show
How to properly QSO

(Chorus)

Oh, FCC
No "gimmes" please
Give Techs a test
Earn priviledges
What a drag-this is getting old

Sorry, I couldn't resist. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

And... some more little ditties I have come up with from time to time!

Enjoy and hum along!

'MAGIC STRAIGHT KEY RIDE!'
(to the tune of 'Magic Carpet Ride!')

(music by 'Steppenwolf')
(Lyrics © 2003 K3FT)

I like to dream…
Right besides my morse machine.
Where my fingers tap a merry beat..
See double-you can't be beat!

(chorus)
Close your eyes, now!
Give it a try, now,
Let the code take you awayyyyyyyy!

I held that straight key in my hand!
Sent some signals on the band!
With a firm light touch I pound that brass!
With a certain touch of class!

(chorus)
Close your eyes, now!
Listen up, now,
Let the code take you awayyyyyyyy!
========================

"OPERATOR MAN!"
(to the tune 'The Pusher Man")
(Lyrics © 2003 K3FT

Man, I sent a lot a'code!
(OH LORD!)
Usin' mah straight key!!

But I never, ever copied..
Code a'usin' my P-C!

=======================
"C-W!"
(to the tune of "Purple Haze)
(music © Jimi Hendrix)
(Lyrics © 2003 K3FT)

SEE DOUBLE-U!
All in my brain!
Learned the code!....
Thing's ain't the same!...
Contests I'm runnin'...
All them Q's!

Scuze me, while I stop and tune!
(di-di-di-dah… di-di-di-dah!!!!!)

C-W!
All around!
No matter whether you tune up or down!
Anytime.. Day or night!
You'll hear code, you got that right!!

(dah de dahh! Da de dah!!)

C-W!!! Here to stay!
No matter what those 'no-codes' say!
They sneer and make snide comments too!
But while they bitch.. I'm workin' you!

(dah di dahh!! Dah di dahhh!)

Help them!!! Help them!!
OH YESS! HELP THEM!!

C-W….

======================
'And the beat goes on!'
(sung to the tune of the same name #by Sonny and Cher)
(Music © Sonny and Cher)
(Lyrics © 2003 K3FT)

And the beat goes on…
And the beat goes on..

Keys keep sending a'rhythm on the air!
Dah de dah de dah!!!! #Dah de dah de dah!

Even kids of 3 can learn to key!
Ages range from 3 to nintey three!
And people operate there more and more!

Straight keyes bugs and keyers by the score!

And the beat goes on..
And the beat goes on!

Etc..

And LAST.. but CERTAINLY NOT least..

HOW can one end a group of parody songs without a lifting of the ceremonial baton to a ham who is known by MANY on QRZ.COM 'Talk and Opinions' section as 'THE GREAT DEBATER!'

(Although he has departed our area, I still wish to honor him with this little tune.)

(Sung to the tune of 'The Great Pretender'
(Music by Mr. Jackson Browne.

Ahh Mr. MIV... You are far and away a good debater, but this little parody was written to honor a ham who lives in the West Coast of the USA and over several months had become (in his own mind) a legend.

Many who were on this reflector are well aware of his debating prowess and the mastery of the ways that one can ascertain how many angelic beings are able to pirouette atop the point of a pin.

Your debates are reasoned and tend to deal with points that have merit. whereas this particular person enjoyed digging down in the mutinae of ANY discussion and seeking the smallest nitnoid point and focusing all of his prowess upon proving that THIS point was THE point of the discussion.

He became, quickly known as our resident QRZ.COM sMarty.

I don't think that you would EVER drop down that far to approach that level.

Quite OK, Charles old chap, I am of a generous bent and freely share whatever kudos I may glean now or in posts yet to gush forth.

BTW, don't underestimate how far down the evolutionary scale I can reach in debate. The Marquess of Queensbury I'm not!

This is written to the tune Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle's "The Sounds of Silence" with appologies to both of these great artists.

The Silence

Hello silence my old friend
My rig's not working once again
It happen one morning
It stopped working without warning
The day after it went out of warrantee
Oh, why me?
And all I heard
Was silence

So I cussed, and hoped, and prayed
For this expensive paperweight
I hooked it to my test gear
It's something serious, I do fear
The Owner's Manual had some words written on page one
"Just turn it on"
And it will stop
The silence

It seems my problem now is solved
I QSO with great resolve
The Owner's Manual, I have learned
For this knowledge, I have yearned
Great words are written on the pages of this great book
Take time to look
And you won't have
The silence. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Chuck, FT,

I'm glad you got a kick out of it. I'm kinda telling (and showing) my age just a liiiittle bit. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

04-15-2004, 11:04 AM
Hi Gary,

The 'telling your age' thing relates to the fact that 'back then' you COULD turn on the rig and use it (usually) WITHOUT the manual.

NOW.. you can't hardly TURN IT ON WITHOUT the manual. All the multi-function buttons, the screens that shift display based on the press of buttons, everything buried UNTIL it is enabled.

RTFM, in the olden days, was USUALLY applied AFTER you had played with the rig and needed to get some of the more esoteric things operating.

NOW.. RTFM means that you BETTER read it in order to even set up the basic operating paremeters so you CAN play with the rig - forget the esoteric functions.

Sometimes.. the 'peak, dip, and load' - although sometimes a bother - was the best!
