It would appear from watching network television tonight ( abc ) that the standards are being lowered ( again ). Now we have a variety show that shows a BLONDE white woman with " low - cut tops " with very little talent; other than the ability to get MEN to watch the show. One could guess that the network s Sunday night ratings were slowly sinking, and that this is one way to try to get folks to watch THEIR shows over any / every one elses. Your guesses / ideas ?

They have her equally dim husband on for the females so it is not just a show for females. Besides, ESPN has the Padres and Giants baseball game on, who cares what the networks are showing!

Man some people are real uptight over what god gave the young lady. Sounds like a good idea for a TV show, good looking pop stars doing a variety show.. something that has been around from the beginning of TV.

Now I don't have a clue how I know this (I'm a guitar playing rock-n-roller who hates "pop" music) but....

Did you know that this YL openly declared that she would have nothing to do with pre-marital sex.

That she was a Christan contemporary singer before she went "pop". And that the reason she went pop was because she was errr gifted and her Christian record company wanted her to hide what god gave her.

Sure she is about as smart as a load of bricks... But hey we all can't be rocket scientists. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Back in the thirties with movies now rare
Frequently villains would go to the chair

Credit given script-writers for doing their best
In addition a mention "Gowns by Vera West."

"Display discrete cleavage" said this innovator
Present day gowns head south to the equator

Some call it art, call it that if you must
But Hollywood thrives on animal lust

Oscars parade loads of West Coast Tarts
Displaying their flesh but lacking in smarts.

I like women. But somehow I'm glad I missed this one.

Actually the networks left me when they switched to "all reality" shows. There is no such thing as reality when a ^#*& camera is stuck in your face. Not on Survivor, not on the evening news, not when interviewing (for the news) the lastes excuse for the drunk bum lying on the grass. Cameras make fake and cheap acting. I find it really difficult to stick with the major networks in the entertainment field at all. While some dumb blonde is parading around ABC, I'm over watching The Sopranos and Deadwood. Not very intellectual, but no station breaks.

Would be even more better some, to be on the air, me thinks!

Enjoy

I missed the show in question. I watched "Band Of Brothers" on the History Channel. Good show. Will be watching more of it this week, I think, as it's on each night. I don't have HBO, so was wanting to see it. Anyway, it was good, and give me a good documentary or a good game over most of the networks offerings any day.

Ed, how do you like that "Deadwood" show anyway? I live only 30 miles from the real one, and the locals here have given it pretty mixed reviews on the whole. I don't have HBO, so haven't seen it. Just wondering. 73

Lowering standards? I don't get it. So Jessica Simpson and her husband have a show together. Come on man, do you think she should be wearing a berka and staring at the ground? Why some are so offended by the human body is beyond me. Hey! I don't want to see no upper arm on TV either! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I'm just waiting for this weeks episode of The Shield. Capt Asavata got face raped last week and I can't wait to see what Vic Makey does with the money they stole from the Armanian drug gangs now that he knows the bills are marked. The Shield rocks.
So what kind of freaky stuff did I miss last night? Something about some blonde and her husband? It must have really been whack to upset the sensibilities of someone enough to make him put a post here on the board about it.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I guess it is just A B C televisions approach to " let us make MEN look " tv ...you know a show like this wont be renewed for the 2004/2005 fall season, but just as a " filler " for the hopelessly predictable scenerio of Sunday night ( since they dont show Sunday night movies any more ). Other folks in the house got to noticing when KENNY ROGERS and the blonde woman were singing " Islands in the stream " how badly KENNY s singing got just after every time he looked at her. Obviously HE was distracted a lot...( no telling how many times they had to re-make that one 3-minute song to where it would look/sound good ). But to each his/her own. Tonight on NBC tv on " fear factor " there will be 6 of the "Miss USA " contestants just being theirselves for a full hour... then the "Miss USA pagent " ( notice I left the word BEAUTY out of the title )........so it aint just A B C doing the lousy stuff (( is it ratings week again ? ))...so far as the MISS USA pagent tonight, it should be narrowed down to :
Florida
California
New York
Michigan
Colorado
being at least in the top 5 ( or 3 ) countdown, possibly a :
Texas
Iowa
being in it...let me see that is 7 out of 50, I should be right about at least ONE of those listed... updates Tuesday morning ( wont even have to watch the program, it will be on NBC Today show tomorrow morning anyway, since NBC is showing the event. ) { look at the EXTRA class op from Alabama who can count to 7...wow !!}...... ---ai4ep--- http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

This is one of the Howard Stern type things. Don't like Howard? Switch the channel. Don't like Larry King? Switch the channel. Don't like Seasame Street? Switch the channel. Don't like dumb blondes with low cut tops? Change the channel.

So, did you watch the whole thing or did you CHANGE THE CHANNEL?

Or, do as I do and not turn it on at all.
I smile at all the comments about how much a wasteland TV is. Pat Robertson and his ilk condemn TV for corrupting the mind of youth with errant ideology, all the while making a fortune from it by proselitizing their own brand of ideology; the hoi polloi condemn "commercial" TV while sitting in gape-mouthed stupefaction in front of all the PBS drivel that costs us millions; neo-Coliseum throng gathers to waste whole days salvating in front of mindless contests of NFL, NHL, AFL and CIO etc ad infinitum.
HLM: "No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public."

"...if you don't like it, switch the channel!"

OK.. I'll switch the channels and see what's going on.

It's Friday night... checking the TV channels (and cable)

Umm.. gee, lots of 'home/bargain/shopping channels' (EBAY on video with out the last minute bidding wars)

The channel guide.. well,that's entertaining.

Scrambled channels (Love that rocking and rolling picture!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

OH! A program.. UH OH.. Some lady getting attacked by thugs and a very overt (without getting visually graphic) action where she's going to (by direct implication) raped. (SWITCH CHANNELS!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

ANOTHER PROGRAM.. UH OH.. bunch of single folks living in a amke believe world riding around on buses cursing, showinga lot of skin, acting like spoiled brats and generally making a mockery of almost anything reasonable. (SWITCH CHANNELS)

MOVIES! Let's see... two mob guys are torturing a guy they have roped to a chair. Oh my.. there goes the blowtorch! (SWITCH CHANNELS)

E! Howard Stern. NO thanks. (SWITCH CHANNELS)

Couple of 'talk shows' discussing such serious topics as 'My man won't give me no sex at all so I go do strip clubs for pleasure whle my kids are home being watched by the neighbor who likes to watch porno while he watches them!"
(SWITCH CHANNELS)

OK.. Political shows.. CSPAN/CSPAN 2.. OKto watch.. but hey.. only can take so much then want to be entertained.

NEWS - MY GOTT! All sorts of useful information. 'This person killed that person'. 'This group burned down that groups place becuase they didn't like the groups message', 'The latest pop culture fad about getting your eyeball jewelry!' 'How Hollywood Makes Botox mainstream!' 'The WAR - AMerica is bad and we should just go away and let the UN handle it!'
(SWITCH CHANNELS)

Old movies - AT LAST! NO overt sexuality.. very little cursing.. PLOTS that have some substance.. A storyline that is more than 1 level deep in understanding. Characters who you can actually relate to AND/OR enjoy watching. A movie with a meaning.

(Stay here a whilethe switch)

History/Disc - documentaries of what happened (really) with film/video/interviews with those who were THERE - not s0me HOLLYWOOD 'dramatization' based on what they THINK happened.

(stay here a while, then switch)

Comedy/cartoon channels.. Mixed bag. altogether not bad.

SO that's the video tour.. NOt a lot of stuff to watch worthwhile.

So switching the channels to find CURRENT stuff that is NOT of a 'howard stern' level or such is KINDA HARD TO DO!

Let's NOT even talk RADIO.. Why, you can turn the dial and hear LESS stuff that you would want to listen to on a regular basis that is NOT degrading to one group or another, extolling the virtues of some abberhent behaviour OR outrageous 'guarnateed to shock' behaviour.

So 'switching the channels' argument DOES NOT hold water. It is just TOO pervasive.. TOO 'everywhere' for folks to exercise reasonable control in an effective manner.

It's called "ROT". When ROT spreads beyond the controllable environment.. you cut out the rot and repair the damage.

Just one hams opinion.

YMMV (and probably will)

K3FT

YOu know.. I heard a REALLY funny interviewon some hiphop stationthe other day. They were interviewing some rapper who liked to put out lyrics that were, shall we say, less than complimentary about groups and women. They were talking about the FCC actions andbeomoaning all the stuff going on with that aspect.

The interviewer asked the rapper if hefelt his music and lyrics were offensive. His standard response was 'No, people can listen to whatever they want. It's free country!"

The interviewer asked him "Would it bother you if people listened to your music and got upset?" Rapper said (BEEEP) "NO (BEEEP) WAY! Everyone makes their own (BEEPING) choices to listen or not!"

The interviewer said 'Well would you want your Mom, grandmom, or kids listening to you sing that stuff?"

Rapper, "Aww No, man! I mean we're talking my GRANDMA here, man! We're not talking about other people! I mean, I don't think they would get what I'm saying, you know? My Mom already tells me she didn't raise me to be a garbage mouth, but you know.. that's just what Mom's do, you know what I'm saying? Asfor my kids.. NO (BEEEP) WAY! They're too young. I don't let 'em listen to that stuff!"

The interviewer just aggreed with him and they moved on.

It's getting to the point that I won't hardly watch TV.

ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN, MSNBC-If the achors on the these news programs lean anymore to the left, they'd have to start walking sideways.

Besides, it makes me dizzy trying to keep up with all they spinning they do. Even the local TV, and radio stations here spin at incrediable speeds.

There no entertaiment on the movie channels either. Too many movie "stars" using their power, position and money for a political platform.

I'll stick with the hobby. I find it much less stressful.

There are some good shows but they arre getting harder to find.

Frank you got the spelling right on the Confederate Submarine. The "History Channel" and the "Discovery Wings" channels are just about the only television I watch. And unfortunately, "Wings" can be pretty repetitious at times! Personally, the heck with the tv outside of local news and one or two other things... I'd rather play radio.

As a matter of fact, tonight was a good night on the radio. Had some things happen over the weekend, that I didn't want to discuss on the air (and won't discuss here), the folks I know on one of the local 2m repeaters sensed I was a little uptight about it, I declined comment, and they let me be about it, and we launched into an extended ragchews about all manner of subjects aside from mine.

I told them I was on tonight to try to escape into the radio... can't help but wonder if the extended ragchew was a little help from those good folks.

Thanks & 73 to all!
