View Full Version : Yaesu FT-7800R Question
I'm currently in the debate of which dual band (2/70) radio to purchase. Does anyone know if the Yaesu FT-7800R can scan both bands? Not dual recieve, but scan both like a scanner? IE: You can press 'scan', and it scans VHF/VHF/VHF/UHF/UHF/UHF? Or can it only scan VHF or UHF in a specific mode? Thanks!
Yes I have been using mine like that for better than a month. Get one you will love it.

I have had the Yeasu 7800 for a couple of months now and I love it. Yes it will scan as you asked, vhf vhf uhf vhf uhf etc.. any combination, pretty fast too. It will scan any freq you programmed in the memmory. It also has a SMART scan feature and will automatically load active freqs in memory that it hears.
The 7800 has plenty of features available and sounds very good on the air. Very good value for the $.
There are a few nit picky things that I have found that I don't like . !st is the mic cable, the cable coil is kind of stiff and one feels that much stress is being placed on the RJ connector. But, how far do you need to be from the radio? The 2nd item is the tuning detent on the VFO/Mem knob has a light touch. This is something to get used to. I found this to be a problem for me when mobile during #Fox Hunts.
Things I specially like,
Clear bright display, can be dimmed.
5 Hyper buttons, pgm your favorite freq and settings. 1 button access.
Wide receive, power selections and easy programming.
I would highly reccommend this radio if you don't need crossband repeat.
No intermod and a very quiet fan

I have the ft 7800 yaesu 2m/70cm and so far so good I use the Diamond SG 7900 ANT.My SWR is 1.1to1.6 across the entire 2m/70cm band.50W on 2 meters 35W on 70cm. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
