This past weekend I took, and passed my Extra exam. Yay me, pat myself on the back. (All that sort of good self esteem stuff) Needless to say I'm pretty proud of the accomplishment.

I decided to try out my new privs last night by tuning around into the advance/extra portions of 75 meters and just happened across some operators that were talking about how things were progressing in our hobby/service. Curiousity got the best of me, so I listened in for a while. It was a real kick in the head to hear them talk about how all these new generals and extras were the downfall of society as we know it.

Now being thick skinned, it doesn't matter to me what someone is yapping about, but I would like to make one comment. Don't lump us all into this "bunch of loosers" category just because we only had to learn 5wpm, and took an easier test. I personally know that just because I've passed the test, it's not the end of the journey. Merely the beginning.

Ok, now that I've said what I wanted to, I hope to work you all someday on the bands.
Best Reguards,

Congrats on the upgrade Frankie... At least you DID do what was required for the license instead of whining about how hard code is.... I do not have any problem with those who go through the license process without whining about it... I do have a problem with what has become of our licensing requirements and the process, not to mention those who refuse to upgrade until there is no code requirement, and then whine & cry about it.... Unfortunately for most of the new upgrades, easy testing requirements will be the talk of the 75 meter band for quite some years to come I would bet.....

I agree completely, with the quote from NJ1K, Frankie.

First, I agree -- congratulations on your accomplishment. Secondly I point out -- you ARE proud of it, aren't you? And rightly so. That is what is missing in some areas of ham radio (and in vast areas of society) today - that enjoyment of pride in something done, in meeting a challenge successfully. Now you know how good that feels. But you can't convey that to others; they have to want it on their own. And many do not.

It is the system that is broken. It is not the individual operators. Individuals took the test that was given to them, and for those who did, I can not imagine myself 'talking down' to them, or mistreating them. They did what was required, and as far as I am concerned they are accomplished hams.

But there is a faction that is not satisified to have the Technician privileges only. Yet they won't work to have more privileges. Instead, they bitch. These are individuals I do not respect. They are the most vocal, and the cause of most of the division in ham radio today. And to be honest, if and when the Morse testing requirement goes away (and it certainly will) and these individuals up upgraded to General or Extra, if I recognize them, I will not talk to them, nor assist them in any way. Of course, realistically I won't recognize them. They are the "I don't want to work for it" crowd. Though the licensing and testing system is broken, their goal is to break it further, to destroy it. I want no part of them.

You are not in that group, and were I in a roundtable on 75 meters I'd welcome you easily. I'd be happy to work on you CW.

So what you got by passing the test was more respect for yourself. And more from others as well.

Good luck, and welcome to HF
