Well I have been bitten by the bug and love contesting. At least DX contesting #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

This weekend I ran the MARC's (W4MOT)15 meter entry into the ARRL Intl DX Contest.

There were 4 stations in all 80 40 20 15.

I set up a screen room a R5 vertical up 20 feet or so strapped to a wooden volley ball pole. Ran a IC 718 putting out a whoping 100 watts and worked 133 stations in 61 countries (Only 2 contacts were state side and were done by other operators http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif)

Now I know this doesn't compete with some of you "Big Guns" but for my first time DX'ing I think that's not to shabby.

I heard a lot of Stateside CQ'ing going on so it was a busy weekend on the bands. I am already looing forward to next years DX Contest hehe.

73's hope everyone had as much fun as I did #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

VQ5A is Turks & Caicos Islands (aka VP5). This was a special contest callsign. I worked them on multiple bands. Because I had to spend all day driving from Washington, DC to Pittsburgh, Pa and back to pick up my son from college for spring break I only went after contacts that were a new country by band and/or mode. I was hoping to get the last 10 entities on 10M I need for DXCC there but came up about 6 short. Oh well, there is the WPX contest at the end of the month, maybe then.

I was using 100W to a G5RV up 20 feet and worked all bands 80-10. I even grabbed a few new ones on 30 & 17 M when they popped up on the DX cluster.

NEXT YEAR http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif !!

The WPX Contest, which is even more fun, yet to come! SSB is on March 27-28 and CW is Memorial Day Weekend.

I was playing around this weekend too (even heard Mike, WA3KYY) very very casually and got some new ones for SSB DXCC. It's been years since I was on phone; those phonetics are tricky when flying back at you.

Welcome aboard.
