Hi Gang,
Just had mine for a month now, a great little HT once you get rid of the rubber dummy. Only one problem I'm kinda worried about buying any more Yaesu radios due to a past number of threads of Yaesu service war storys.
Your thoughts? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
I'm very happy with the device.
Sized right, looks good in public and works great with the 8900 for X-Banding.
Watch for the red TX/CHARGE LED to fail. (cold solder, I'm told)
Then be prepared for it to fail the same way, a week after Yaesu returns it from warranty service.
Once I contact a company, I expect a response.
When I send an item for warranty service, I expect to be dazzled by the company whose product failed under normal conditions. They need to win my confidence back.
When they fall short on the first try, I expect at least a small freebee the next time around. No chance of that.
Despite my current experiences, the next rig will likely be Yaesu. I can only hope their service ethic has improved in time for the next job I send them.

The VX-2R is very nice. I agree an after market antenna such as a Diamond SMA-503 is much better then stock. I do notice the radio overloads and gets image signals when connected to a base antenna but works ok with a moble antenna.
