View Full Version : 75 Was A HOOT Last Night

I was cruise'n 'round 75 last night just doing my "Thang" and minding everybody else's business, when I stumbled upon a disgruntled group whining and moaning about something.
I stuck around and reco.....err umm....listened for awhile and, come to find out, what they were whining and moaning about was, one of them got an OO card for not identifying his station for a period of 19 minutes one morning about 3:30 AM.
You should have heard the verbal assassination, slander, cursing, and other grade school garbage these LIDS were spouting. I was OTFLMAO, when all of a sudden, they started making THREATS!!!
Now, there is NOTHING to laugh about.
Message to violators.....Whine all you want....slander all you want.....but if you threaten one of the COPS ON THE BEAT....!!!
Everybody knows how cynical, and openly critical I am of the Official Ostrich Program. But when one of them comes out of his hole and DOES HIS JOB....I become his bestest FRIEND. Whoever you are Mr OO, THANK YOU, GOD BLESS YOU, AND MAY HE BLESS THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS, AND PROTECT YOU FROM HARM. And if God won't do it......I will.
Thanks Again

Yawn...
There is a control, somewhere on your rig, often in the upper corner, its often marked "Power", "Pwr", "On" (or off or on/off) or sometimes "I/O".
Generally if you press it, the problem goes away. Try it sometime. Usually one press, sometimes you have to hold it for a second or two or flip it toward the "O".

Turning your back and ignoring a problem doesn't make it disappear. Too many of us in this country THINK that's the way to handle things.
My sentiments run firmly on the side of those who speak against that which they know is wrong, NOT with those who merely accept what they know to be wrong, and ignore it.
75 meters is a festering pimple on the face of US amateur radio. It has been this way for quite awhile now, despite gains made by enforcement actions. I certainly hope the original post author recorded these alleged threats, and will take appropriate action.

Why is it just 75? (Or perhaps, MOSTLY 75?)
Really. Remember, I'm new here.
I understand truckers on 10 (Export radios), but 75?
I don't get it.

It's 75, because 75 is a very consistent, night after night, reliable band, most of the time. Those that gather on certain frequencies ( Nets, or whatever you want to call them ) are reasonably certain that they will meet up with the same group of others that share their same interests. Unfortunately, those interests include acting like a bunch of jerks and seeing how far they can pull someone else's chain before they get nailed for it. They seem to get their "jollies" by pushing as far beyond the limits as they can! When an "OO" sends them a reminder, they just flaunt it in front of the others that are gathered on the frequency.
75 is just like the CB band in many respects. The biggest difference is that CB is primarily local in nature ( unless "skip" is in ) while 75 has a much wider coverage area. Wider, but still consistant for the most part! Higher bands are not "open" over extended geographical areas all at once.
73 from Jim
Ahhhh, ok. Now I understand.
Tom, I've heard the crap down there, and I hate it too, I was just curious why they chose that 'specific' band to congregate on. Never thought of the propagation being the reason.
All for anything to clean that sewer up!

75 meters this ... 75 meters that ... and there are folks that say the debate over CW is old news!
Yeah, there are problems on a few "hot spots" on 75. So what, the same happens on 40, 20, and 10 meters. I personally enjoy the variety offered by conversations on 75. I don't like all of it, but if it's not in violation of part 97, then it's known as FREE SPEECH. I have grown tired of the "your 5x9 OM, could you repeat your call slowly, and what was my report?" crap.
In my 11+ years of enjoying the hobby, I have to agree that 75 meters has changed. It's BETTER than it was 10 years ago, due primarily to the efforts of Mr. Hollingsworth's enforcement actions.
So...if some of you "Aces" don't like what you hear there, and if what you hear is not in violation, then just take your "Thang" and move it to another band/frequency/hobby (select one or more of the above).
It would be far more productive than trying to shove your values and opinions down someone else's throat.
For the record, I support prosecution of part 97 violations, and I commend Mr. H on his efforts. I would like to see him turn his attention to more pressing issues, but I would also like to win the lottery.
And ... I tend to stick close to 3.868, the NERD Net, where our mindset is that "Except in times of declared emergency, Amateur Radio should be FUN!
I'm going to have some fun now.

Seems in this instance, an amateur was upset about being interfered with and with some things said in the course of the subsequent confrontation. #The Amateur called the FCC and they investigated. #Apparantly I missed the show when the amateur returned to the frequency last night and tried to give it to the folks there with both barrells instead of letting the FCC handle it. #Now I would suspect they ALL will get letters.
Tom is on the right track. #Report but don't confront. #Let the FCC do their job. This amateur is a newer friend of mine, and I wish my friend all the best.

That is NOT the solution. #I don't want to be confrontational,
but that is the attitude of those who ENJOY such infantile
behavior. It is just this sort of conduct that causes the loss of
Amateur bands. #Those who cannot use a radio in a mature,
reasonable manner SHOULD be sanctioned up to and including
license suspension or revocation. #We are to be ambassadors
to non-hams and/or to other nations who gauge us by our
behavior. #No wonder Europeans think of us as wild, undisciplined, self-centered hellions! #It is one thing to discuss
varied topics, but quite another to engage in childish antics,
whining, b****ing, arguing, even threatening fellow hams.
I have no patience with such fools and will not suffer them willingly. I WILL record and report such in a skinny minute!
It is the responsibility of every licensed ham to see that our
bands are protected from immature and undeserving licensees.

You are a man after my own heart. #It is you, and others like you, whose legacy will be the future of amateur radio.
To those who would violate the FCC rules on ham radio!
There is yet ANOTHER Grass Roots Rules Enforcement Officer on the beat!
AND
there are many many more that you have not even conceived of.
If you are a persistent violator.....your licensed days are in real jeopardy.
Get Right......or GET GONE!

In this day and age, the idea of "accountability" has been thrown out the window. It isn't my fault, I am the result of society, my parents did this or that, I am entitled to say and do what I want, blah, blah, blah.
Our last political leader in the White House demonstrated that. Got busted for acting like a fool and won't be man enough to stand up and admit "I did wrong". Nowadays, no one is held accountable for their actions, and when called on the carpet, beging the tirade of whinings, complaining, griping, threats, etc. It's my right this and that.
My 2 cents worth. Act your age and own up to your mistakes you make and learn from them and quit the whining.
75 meters isn't the only spot. I have heard it on 2 meters, 20, 40, 6 etc. Bad apples and whiners are everywhere. I don't have much use for the OO's, but when they do their job correctly, all power to them.
The Feds could be sending that slob an official letter if he would prefer!
I say, bring back accountability, police ourselves and clean things up. You can do what you want behind the door to your house, but when you make it public, you are on a pedestal for all the see whether they want to or not, and that includes listening.
Exactly so. Amateur radio is more than hurried exchanges of callsigns and uptight rules warriors.
I like tio have some fun too
