Thats not the point. #The point is you have a licensed tech selling an illegal radio. #Yeah I know that probably in excess of 70% of these radios are opened up. #Not gonna deny it. #Some amateurs even sell them (opened up). #But dont show the VFO smack dab on channel 19. and your call sign!

W3SY I truly hope your negative comments about Citizens Band ops are an attempt at humor, however futile.
Yes, I agree there are some pretty rank ops on 27mhz, but from what I've heard on 75m, "let him without sin cast the first stone". There are many good people that use CB as it was meant to be AND legally. As a professional driver I still keep a Uniden Grant XL in my truck beside my Icom IC2100H, and I still have a CB in the house to talk to friends that do not have interest in ham radio.
Sorry to rant, but I see a lot of hatred pointed toward CB from this site and I wonder if it's not designed to keep the "unworthy" away from what some percieve as their personal playground.
Thanks for letting me vent.

ZAR,
I am speaking for me only...I could really really care less who operates CB. I had one. I know people who have one. Ive got two in a desk drawer. Yes, I am quite aware of the 75m idiots. But let me ask you this, at any random time of the day.... put your radio(s) on the Superbowl or 3.945mhz Which one is probably going to have somebody spewing somekind of obscinity on the air. Go ahead, I'll wait a little bit.... You back? great. But all this isnt the point (Again). If you have a CB, and its legal...clap your hands! (Sorry couldnt resist it). My beef isnt with the Superbowlers, Chan 38 SSB drunk preachers, Chan 19 "I aint got no panties on" crowd, SE CU DE EKIS Alpha Tango dudes. My problem is with... Again.....
Licensed Amateur operators that are stupid enough to sell illegal rigs on ebay and freebanders that use the bands that I earned as there private buisness frequencies to talk about whatever!
You Love CB? Kool have a blast. You love freebanding. Well isnt that special! Have a blast... Wanna put up an amp that costs more than you car/house/family. WOO HOO! Just be aware that its illegal, Stay off the Amateur bands, and out of the MARS frequencies that I may possibly have to operate on. Dont know what they are. Figure it out! Go download a frequency allocation chart and the ARRL band allocation chart like I did when I was a practicing freebander! You a licensed Amateur operator that likes to do all the above. Great, special, enjoy yourself, what ever biases your transistors! Be good! and if your not gonna be good be careful! Me? I dont miss freebanding one single solitary bit!
Do I have a CB in the shack... yes. Is it hacked/tweaked....No I talk to/with a local group here in the county. And I operate like I do on the bands. Courteous, polite, and professional. No echo beeps, rat farts, sliders, cursing, or the other junk. Just a cheepie radio, stock mike, rg-58, and an antron. (W3SY will probably have some words with me for this but Im ready, he's entitled to his opinions. )
Anyhow, this tirade has gone one long enough, if by now you (and you in this case is not a "personal" you but an all encompasing YOU) dont understand that MOST of us here dont give/care a flying hot dog if you love your CB as long as you stay out of the Amateur bands and not sell illegal/modified radios openly. then you will probably NEVER get the point!
Thus endith the sermon....Go in peace to love and serve your creator!
Ren!
That thar CB Good Buddy done said, "I am a licensed HAM operator and I think you either have way to much time on your hands or you have a lot of anger inside that you use to exert by getting into things that have nothing to do with you."
Why do I keep noticing that CB leanings go with people who say "HAM?" Nate Newbie rides again! I'm starting to think this newly coined acronym of "HAM" stands for "How Abouddit, Mercy!"
From larry, KG4ZAR:
"W3SY I truly hope your negative comments about Citizens Band ops are an attempt at humor, however futile."
Oh, partially. But there is some real resentment in there. I once tried to use CB in the car when I was too cheap to buy a 2 meter rig. I found it TOTALLY useless for any meaningful communication. I tried to ask directions. I tried to get help for a stranded motorist. I also tried to use Channel 9. Talk about "futile." THAT was futile! The CB ops I encountered were morons! They would routinely transmit over top a busy channel. They would often make rude remarks any time they heard someone who sounded like they had a 3 digit IQ. If you didn't speak the idiotic Chicken Band Lingo, you were just "noise" to these guys.
"Yes, I agree there are some pretty rank ops on 27mhz, but from what I've heard on 75m, 'let him without sin cast the first stone'."
I won't defend some of the 75 meter nitwits. They have their OWN problems. Why does the mess on 75 in any way excuse the mess on Chicken Band? I don't get it.
"There are many good people that use CB as it was meant to be AND legally."
Problem is nobody can hear them through all the roger beeps, squeals, noise toys, echo chambers, LEENYERS, and bucket mouths. Haw!
"As a professional driver I still keep a Uniden Grant XL in my truck beside my Icom IC2100H, and I still have a CB in the house to talk to friends that do not have interest in ham radio."
I'm sure there ARE civilized, sensible CB'ers out there. I just don't hear 'em. What I DO hear is the CB'ers who wander up onto 10 and 12 meters.
"Sorry to rant, but I see a lot of hatred pointed toward CB from this site and I wonder if it's not designed to keep the "unworthy" away from what some percieve as their personal playground."
Nobody ever said who is worthy and who is unworthy. *I* just think CB is a sewer. And I DO enjoy making fun of it.
Thanks for your rant! Hope you enjoyed mine.
Out.

Hey Steve,
What happened to the other picture.
The thing is up to over $100 bucks, now! I guess I had better gather together my illegal gear and get ready to sell it, too! Now lets see, where do you think I can make more money, EBay, or a "Hamfest" ( in quotes, because they are certainly anything but a old fashioned hamfest any more ! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif )

Actually I appreciate CB immensely. It has its function, a legitmate and extremely important one. It provides an outlet for gobs of idiots who otherwise might one day find their way to a real ham license. I promote CB actively, and on rare occasion I tune across those channels to be sure they are still very active, for as long as they are, that is a lot of people who are not on the ham bands.
Do I dislike individual CBers? Nope. Just like I don't dislike no-code Techs. But I dislike the 'entity' of CB. Yet, I am incredibly glad it is there, as it is our escape for the ones who need nothing at all but a microphone to show the world (or some part of it) they really are idiots. I do have to admit, I have no friends who are CBers, but I'm not sure that implies anything.
When I get angry at some of the 75 meter folks I remind myself there is a worse place to be. But first, I also remind myself there are many frequencies on 75 metes and I still have a tuning knob on the radio. Every once in a while, though, we have to be reminded of horrible diseases, so we can appreciate our good or medium health, and that requires a quick run across the CB channels.
Couple of years ago I did hear a couple of guys on CB on farm tractors, talking about "did you finish baling that field?" and some other legitmite uses. They were about two miles from me, on a ranch. Haven't heard any other "legit" CBers since then, though.
However, I sure hope it sticksaround, in all its forms, as long as it stays on the CB/Freeband channels. Leenyars, all that other stuff, are fine with me. I don't care what they do, and in fact I encourage them to do it all. Just keep it off the ham bands. Way I see it, that's why I provide the cat with a nice litter box. I don't want him crapping on the carpet.

Nate Newbie eh? Yes I'll give you that since I've held the highly disdained No-code tech for just under a year. It really does not bother me. Heck, after 50 years on this earth very little fazes me until I see and hear hate and contempt towards our fellow man, whomever they may be.
I do agree with you folks on all the modified and converted equipment. It needs to go. I make it a point to educate any CB ops I talk with about the rules on that gear. I was in CB long before "good buddy" and Convoy and remember when things were a lot different
( my cb liscense was ksm-3148).
I'm also glad to hear folks in other states still use cb on farm equip. We do here in Ky .
Rant all you want guys(and gals) I enjoy a good-natured round. I just balk when it gets mean-spirited and nasty.

With such an arrogant answer as he gave back to you, maybe it's time you forward the ad via the URL link to Riley and see what happens.
If Riley feels that an answer from him is justified then he has to be required to provide one. #Don't let people like this just blow you off. #His response out of that alone tells me just that. #In other words he saying for you to, "buzz off" (maybe not what he possibly said, but you get what explative he may have stated) while justifying the sale on ebay.
Besides, how do we know he's telling the truth and that it wasn't moded when he bought it new? #My question is WHERE DID HE BUY IT FROM?
This part of his reply also got my attention...
"It IS in fact a legal radio depending on the
user as is all 10 meter radios. it RECEIVES 11 Meter but CANNOT
TRANSMIT on it "
"A legal radio depending on the user as is all 10 meter radios." #HUH? #"It receives 11 meters but cannot transmit on it." #Right... #Gee Larry, I would like to know where and or from whom you got this radio from over 10 years ago.
Something about his reply is suspect guys and I think you might want to notify Riley's office about it with the ebay URL.
IMHO I think he is lying to you but telling you to mind your own business. #Just my two cents.

Larry KG4ZAR,
The "Nate Newbie" crack wan't for you. It was for the dood selling the hacked Chicken Band rig on eBay. In a discussion some months ago, I mentioned that new hams were using the apparent acronym "HAM" to refer to amateur radio, or ham radio if you prefer.
Example: "I've been on HAM for 3 months, and nobody gives me a cotton pickin' break on the repeater channel!"
Seems like only the newest guys talk/write that way.
It ALSO was newbies in the late 1970's who decided that QSL meant "yes" or "I agree."
<span style='color:blue'>Example 1:
"Did yew stick a pin through that bucketmouth's coax last night?"
"QSL!"</span>
<span style='color:red'>Example 2:
"That ol' ratchet jaw best not key up on this here doggone cotton pickin' repeater no more if he knows what's GOOD for him!"
"CUUUUUUUE ESS ELL!"</span>
I lived to regret letting Newbies get away with the perversion of QSL. I'm not just gonna let "HAM" slide. Har...
As for "Nate," he's a character I made up when I wanted to satirize excessively stubborn newcomers who reject whatever the Olde Pharts of hamming say or do.
As for the eBay seller, why not contact Riley? Riley has shown an "interest" in sellers of hacked and illegal equipment in the past, and has even (from what I heard) cracked down on these vendors at hamfests.
King Bunny Three -- Try, "Geh kockin auffen yam." I've used other spellings, but I think I like this one best. They are just transliterations from the original Yiddish (using Hebrew characters) anyway.
Kish mir an Toochas! #(That means "have a nice weekend".)
