As you probably know, I love the digital modes, and when a new one comes along, I just can't wait to try it out!

Have you tried the new "Domino" mode yet ? It is a highly experimental Multi Frequency tone mode ( like MFSK ) that has great potential.

I would love to work you on 80 meters at night, around 3.580 USB using this mode, or any other digital mode of your choosing. It is lots of fun to compare the various other modes and get away from the PSK31 rut !

Here is a great web page that will help you learn more about it and some of the other modes worth trying.

Hope to see you on the bands, soon ! And I would love to hear your comments on your experiences.

I LOVE the Domino mode....especially when it brings fresh, hot pizza to my front door!

All Kidding aside Jim.

It looks rather interesting. I am going to download a copy and check it out this evening. Might even see you there.

I'll have to check it out!

Last time I tried MFSK16, I found it to be even more robust than PSK31, but a lot harder to tune in.

On the other hand, PSK31 is a breeze to use. Not familiar with Domino yet...

Jim,

If this thing is as billed, seems it would be great for 40 meters above 7.1MHz!

I'll download a version, but you must tell me which one is the most popularly used - 8, 11, or 16. Or will the 16 version compensate for 8 and 11???

I'm always up for a new digital mode. CW is my first love, but I do like to experiment with digis!

Ok Jim,

Downloaded that puppy last night. Low overhead and its neat that you can run the thing off a floppy if you had to! What freqs are being used for it? Same as the PSK31 windows? Not sure on that one. And havent found this one yet but why only the lower 3 bands with this? I have heard that deedle before and was wondering what it was.

Thanks for the link. Will look for you on 80.

Well, the little experimenting I have had a chance to do with it, the slowest mode is the best for error-free communication. But it is on the same level as psk-31 for thru-put, which is to say ( for us touch typists ) a bit slow!

The default mode is 11, but most guys I have worked have chosen to drop back to the 8 because the error rate seems to be a bit high at 11 and 16. ( like psk-63 )

You will find the mode in about the same places you would find the "other" digital modes beside psk-31. It might be best to start out with MFSK-16 and then switch to Domino, although I have both "CQed" and answered CQs directly in Domino, as the tone sequence is fairly easy to identify!

There is a good discussion of the mode on the yahoo mfsk discussion group. I would guess the reason it has found a home there is because it most resembles mfsk:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MFSK

It is probably only on the lower three bands because propagation is getting so bad for the upper bands by the time most of us are around to experiment with the mode. It certainly is not a limitation of the mode itself.

If you cannot decode it, see if the signal you are tune to is actually MFSK16 . They do sound somewhat alike until you get more used to them. After you have heard a few, you can even figure out the baud rate that is being used!
