Please,
Advise me what to buy Icom 756pro/7800 or Yaesu
FT-1000MP(Mark-V).
Thanks,
Alena.
Alena, I have the same exact question also! Have you found out anything from any other source? Wendell http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
If you can afford that IC-7800, you are way out of my league. I would think that this is a lot of radio to have to repair should something go wrong.
As far as the 756 Pro series goes, it's a very popular radio. I have had 3 ICOM HF rigs but had repeated trouble with a 746. The other two, both 706 series, never gave me any trouble.
I also had problems with ICOM refusing to tell me what they did to repair my radio and the costs they had the second time it was repaired and that was the final straw. The radio had been turned in to an "authorized repair" dealer who forwarded it to ICOM for repair without my permission.
My thoughts were, that if ICOM did not think enough of me to tell me what repairs were done, and how much their portion of the bill was, that they did not repect me, as a customer
I now have the FT-1000 Field. It was the only radio that got consistant reports for audio as nice as my ICOMs and I like the receiver better in the Field. In fairness, however, I don't think the 746 was in the same league as the Field either.
I like the built in AC power supply in the Field, and the price is around $1700, if you shop for it. For the extra money you spend to get the 200 watt model of the MP with the seperate power supply, you could buy an amplifier.
Good luck.

Gentlemen:
I too am shopping for a new HF rig. I just posted a question about my present rig, the Kenwood ts570D. The cw keyer in the radio has quit. so I am looking for a new HF rig but dont know what to get. How about some feedback from the ham community to help me make an informed decision..Looking forward to hearing from all of you...go to either kb9gfx.com or kb9gfx@bayland.net. hope to hear from you soon...best 73's and good haming.

Well, I did a whole lot of studing various reviews, product info manuals, my wallet (&^%$#@*&), web pages, etc. I'm going to get the Mark V (Texas Towers w/rebate $1,999). http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Wendell (ps: don't tell my wife)
Alena (qth2004) doesnt even use callsign and they ask should I buy a 7800 or a Mk V. Trust me gents, anybody that can consider buying a 7800 does not need to ask for advise on which to buy. A Troll perhaps. I believe Icom ruled only to sell 7800 to Advanced and Hi code Extra's. Hi Hi

Your statements floor me about Icom. I have 2 icoms/751/740 and have sent them to Icom for repairs twice each rig. I have always been told what was done etc. I have nothing but good words for Bellevue,Wa. factory service.

The Icom 756 proII has its problems with heat, the 7800 is to new to tell, I never buy first run radio's.
The Yaesu mk5 field seems to be a good radio.
My money $1269.00 is on the Ten Tec jupiter.

Every rig has it's problems. I have never had a problem (heat or otherwise) with my 756 Pro II and the band scope ROCKS! Best advise, look at 10,000 reviews of every rig you are considering, make a decision that doesn't have you second guessing yourself, pay your $$$ and get on the air.
Life is short, call CQ.

You might want to take a rally close look at the Ten Tec Orion. Not only is it a fantastic radio, but service is great if needed.

What do you want out of the rig? If you are a CW op and having the ability to buy a 7800, you should really give the Orion a sold look as VET suggested.
How do you plan to operate? Casual, contest, 7/24, etc...
Pick a rig that has strengths in your manner and modes of operation -- but you have to give that info first...
