Hello I am very new to Ham radio one ? have a chance to purchase a 751/ astron RS-35M/ At 500 tunner for $300 it looks in great shape in fact there is no marks as if it never was moved. Can anyone tell what I need to look at. I do not know any other local hams that could assist me I don't want to pass this up on the other hand don't need a large repair bill. Thank You Bob

the 751 is a wonderful radio. it does have one problem, the software to run the rig is on batttery backed ram. this watch battery after years of use can get weak and start corupting the data and eventialy render the rig useless. Ask the guy if he did the ram replace to an eprom, if not make sure you get one, i see them on ebay all the time.

This is a great radio. I have one and have used it greatly. As regard to replacing the battery--NO big deal. If you can use a soldering iron and follow directions than its simple. Go to www:mods.dk and it shows pictures of how to do it. It takes 30 minutes after you have purchase the battery. Its a simple litiium
3V battery.

I had a 751 for about 10 years and it performed very well. But I would have a hard time going back to a rig that doesn't have direct entry and other features the new rigs have. I have a 718 and wouldn't give it up for 10 ic751s.
Hi Bob, #$300 is a great price for that rig. #As long as it is working OK, you will love it. #If you don't buy it, email me with the sellers info and I might.
Good Luck

Hi Bob...the 751 is a fine rig, and well worth the money alone...but with the power supply and the auto-tuner that is a steal.

I currently run an Icom 751A model but many of my friends run the Icom 751`s and they swear by them. #Fantastic line of radio`s with a very good reputation indeed. #Check out the battery situation and you will have a wonderfull radio.
