I dont know the Yeasu but the V-8000 is a great radio, I have had no problems with it at all and would recommend it if asked directly.

I've had both radios and the V8000 is by far the better of the two. There is no comparison at all. The rx and tx on the V8000 is excellent. Larry..

I've never had the yeasu but I do own the V8000 and the first contact on it was made on a repeater about 25 miles away. Now, you say that is nothing special, well I was in a metal shop with the doors closed in my truck with my mobile antenna also still in the building! The contact said I sounded like iwas in his vehicle with a megaphone. He said loud and crisp audio. That's all I can say.

Try looking at the equipment reviews on eham. It should help you with your decision.

Both these radios are good monoband radios 75 w as apposed to 65 w means nothing you can notice ,I got the Icom V8000 because of the cooling fan and the hand mike and you can change the display color from green to orange.I belive the Yaesu Ft 2800 is the better buy for the money but no cooling fan,and one color display orange only.At HRO the Icom V8000 sells for $185.00 and the Yaesu FT 2800 SELLS FOR $154.00.I would go with the Yaesu if I had to do it all over again, get a good antenna like the Diamond SG2000HD.
