what do you want to know?

check out www.icomclassics.com -- I think that is the URL.

It does not TRANSMIT AM, the broadcast band has a separate antenna port... DO NOT buy the one with the built in supply unless the caps had been replaced. Do not expect rock sold performance unless the caps in the 2nd osc have been replaced. Icom used plastic caps and not ceramic... the plastic ones did not hold up... and heat from the INTERNAL supply makes matters worse.
The PROM board battery needs to be replaced - AND!!!!!!!!! you must keep power on the board when you replace the battery - the PROM BOARD MUST NOT LOOSE POWER for if it does, the radio becomes a paper weight until you mail the board back to ICOM to have its personality replaced -- or you can buy new boards from a secondary market to fix this oversight (that ain't a bug, that is a feature)...
FM was an option
the marker was an option
the filters were an option
the rig was a low end starter rig, where they make thier nut on "options".

I used to have one, loaded with "features", and I should have kept it, but I like the IC-706MK2G better.

I bought one NEW in 1983 when they first came out. #They were certainly not an entry level radio - other than the 751 (which was discontinued after a short while and replaced by the 751a which should have been called a 735a because that is what it was) the 745 was ICOMs
second to top of the line. #With internal supply, FM unit, two filters, the thing was $1190. #I used it both base and mobile and never had a bit of trouble with it. #I later on in 1987 moved up to the 751a - another great rig from ICOM. #You still see the 745 at hamfests and on the auction boards. #You can have a problem with the plastic caps - that all depends on how the radio has spent its life. #If its a one owner who used it everyday and it stayed in a climate controlled room then it is probably going to last longer than the one that was boxed up and stored in the basement for the last 10 years. #Good luck if you decide to get one. #73 de Jim K4LIX

I bought one last summer from a 2nd owner and I've never had a better unit. I paid $300 and I've never regretted it. It was in use everyday and the only reason the guy sold it to me was that he'd bought a 756PROII which has lots more bells & whistles!! I think he may regret selling the 745,but I own it now. I'm proud of it and I get great signal reports when my antennas are in tune. It does not come with a autotuner built in, but one can be added on... I recently purchased a MFJ993 with an interface cable for the ICOM line and found that it is truly a wonderful setup... I use it as a mobile rig in my semi. In my opinion, a better rig can't be found for the price.

I bought one new in 1983 and never really used it to transmit until four years ago. #I've been using it on 20 with a folded dipole strung out as an inverted V on a 9 by 12 deck and have made numerous contacts world wide, usually at half power. The lithium battery is still alive--for now.
