I'll start giving blood for free when the hospitals stop charging for their services.

The red cross does not charge for the blood you donate to them.

Having been diabetic since age 12, I have never given blood. I actually understand that now some diabetics are allowed to give. As my health has started to flag with time, I have not.
I have always admired those who give blood and have wished I could. Forget hospital costs, etc. That has naught to do with giving blood. When someone is on the table having been pulled from an unrecognisable mess of twisted metal that used to be a car, and they need blood, if none is there, that person dies.
Give the blood, you may be the one in the car one day.

m0hem,
I guess your call signs is a vanity one (hem-oglobine).
Me they don't want mine, as I live in a malaria area, but if once I die, I will be pleased to leave as much as possible for recycling (transplant). This will keep me partly alive and surely be of great help for people just trying to stay alive although they are soemtimes still kids. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Gentlemen: I still have a ten-gallon pin from the past. would still give blood at every opportunity, except that I now must take too many medications after bypass surgery in 1998, so it will not be taken, They can't use it. Still, that is samething great that almost everyone can do. All you need is the will to share.
73 to all.

Giving blood is a good thing, as many people need it. I too have a 10 gallon pin from the Red Cross, and have no regrets for giving the blood. But, a few years ago, when I needed some blood, they charged me an arm and a leg for the precious red stuff. Seems all the time I was giving, and they told me if I ever needed blood it would cost me nothing, is total BS. Do I still give blood? You bet! If there is a need, I'm more than happy to help. I just wish they wouldn't lie to you, and tell you if you ever need blood, it won't cost you anything....this is wrong.

Thanks to those people who give blood, doctors saved my life after suffering serious and multiple injuries in a car accident almost 40 years ago. Since then, I give blood at least once a year. It’s a debt of gratitude that I’m pleased to pay them back.

Giving blood is a great expression of caring for your community.
For those who currently don't, please consider it.
For all, please also consider giving platelets. In one process, you can provide blood plasma and the white cells so desparately needed by adults and children suffering cancer and leukemia.

Giving blood is the single, simplest, kindest thing that you can do to make a difference in someones life. Not everyone can be a doctor, paramedic, firefighter etc. but anyone who meets the medical standards can donate blood. I have donated blood for so long that people look at me funny when I wear short sleeves. Also, united blood services does not charge for blood. If you donate as little as one pint of blood you are covered forever. I can go to any hospital that uses united and get up to 30 pints of blood for free.
