My father is currently using the AR-147 by ADI. #His disability is blindness.
We are completly fed up with this radio and would appriciate any recomendations. #I have been looking on the internet, but have no idea which ones would work.

He is constantly having problems with his radio. #The problems range from hitting buttons, to low transmit power problems (this started Friday). The buttons on the 147 are small, and he can't help accidently touching them sometimes. He doesn't transmit far, only about a 30 mile radius. He is using a jpole antenna. #

please let me know if you have suggestions or need more info to help.

Thanks -

Are you referring to the buttons on the mic? I have the same problem - big fingers, small and very sensitive buttons.

While I'm not familiar with that rig, most have a "lock-out" feature - either via a switch (usually on the back of the mic) or a function command. Low power out is probably the function of an inadvertantly hit button.

Once you get the power back to an appropriate level and all other functions as you want them, lock out the control buttons on the mic & you should be set.

I would suspect that a certain amount of help may be found at handiham. http://www.handiham.org/
