I don't need the ARRL to tell me how to mentor. These guys seem to have placed themselves in the position of "savior" of radio. I do not need the league running this part of radio either. I can help out new hams, and be a good mentor with out them, so thanks but no thanks ARRL

CB & OFZ:

You guys are missing the point. As an officially certified Club or Individual Mentor, you will have the opportunity to buy these lovely materials the ARRL has prepared . . .

Ah yes, I should have known, $$$$$$. I over looked that one. Funny, many of us grew up fine with out an "official" mentor. I guess times are changing http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Not only do you have the opportunity to buy the leagues
material, and become an "official" Mentor. You will be
able to teach the new ops everything the league "wants"
you to teach, in the way the league "wants" you to do it.
So you won't have to speak from experience. I guess it
would save on the asprin http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Everyone just remember who was an "officially recognized mentor" by the ARRL who was recently banned from this site!

Sounds like a great program for those who need a title along with their name and call sign.

What makes me wonder is simply this:

1) ARRL makes a restructuring proposal.
2) ARRL says their proposal does not lead to "dumbing down" amateur radio.
3) For many decades hams figured out how to get on the air with only friendly advice here and there.
4) ARRL initiates a mentoring program to help newcomers.

If the newcomers are just as smart as the newcomers of times past, WHY??

It seems like they are admitting that amateur radio is "dumbed down", but they can be the heros that save the day with a mentoring program.

If I were a newcomer, I'd feel insulted. (Unless ARRL is right and I was willing to say "Please help me, because I don't have either the smarts or the enthusiam to figure things out on my own."#)

There ya go Walt, stirring up hate and discontent again! #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I think the ARRL needs a Mental program more than a Mentor program. #They continue to put lipstick on that pig of a proposal and try to pass it off as a debutante. Funnier still are those Amateurs running 'round with lipstick on their collar!

Lets see,

1. They didn't officially poll members
2. From what I can see they had their minds made up before the board meeting
3. The board took what amounted to a secret vote
4. They continue to defend it.
5. Board members continue to brush off attempts at dialogue on the issue with members.

To the League:

Why not cut your losses and fix the proposal before you submit the petition. #Then more of us could support you. #Nothing personal, but its going to get cut to ribbons in comment. #Don't embarras us members. Please?
