I ordered the SCAF-1 Audio Filter Kit on 12-26-03 and was promised it would arrive at my home on 12-29-03. Well, it did!! What great customer service!
I began assembling the kit that evening and finished it on 1-1-04. It was a true pleasure to build such a fine, well engineered kit. It was especially challenging to me since I'd not assembled an electronic kit since 1963 when I built a stereo audio amplifier which used LARGE resistors, capacitors, point to point wiring and TUBES. Anyway at my age of 57, my eyes were challenged, but all went to gether well. There were a few minor glitches, but as I said, they were "minor"
The wonderful experience continued as I plugged the rig into my transceiver adjusted the two pots inside the filter, then, after attaching the cover, adjusted the main pot on the front of the unit. It does EVERYTHING the manufacturer says it does and even exceeds my expectations. I have two transceivers: an Icom IC-718 and a Heathkit HW-8. It performs well on both rigs. What a great product the SCAF-1 is. I recommend it to anyone considering an audio filter. Kudos to Idiom Press on a finely engineered and built product. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I've been thinking of ordering this kit myself, so thank you for sharing your experiences with this product. Kudos to you for your review, and to Idiom Press for what is obviously a well made and good performing audio filter.

I am actually not too impressed with the SCAF-1. I am using it (borrowed from a friend) and I actually prefer my cheap old 1970's MFJ CWF-2 audio filter!! It is just as selective, and not as muffled as the SCAF-1. I must admit, however, that I did not "tweak" the pots for my rig. Maybe that makes a difference. For the price, I'm not gonna do it!
