I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this same situation and/or complaint.

The Comet SB-15. I received it as a Christmas gift along with a Yaesu FT-8900. I have my issues with the rig... but I won't discuss them here. The antenna is great; on 6 I can hit all repeaters in my area wonderfully as long as the antenna is mounted on the roof of my car. On the trunk is another story. 2 meters is fabulous. 440 rocks. Now.. as a Skywarn Coordinator I have reason to listen to the 162 mhz band for the WX transmitters in the area. This antenna is so narrowbanded that I can't hear any of the TXers, even the one that is mearly 10 miles line of sight from my home QTH.

Anyone else have the same complaint? If so, what did you do about it? Is the similar Diamond model just as narrowbanded?

Bottom line, I need an antenna that is tri-band...but can be used for wide-band RX as well. This one dosen't do that. It's bad enough that I have to actually program the WX frequencies into the 8900 because it dosen't have a weather band function like the IC 2720 or the V-8000, or even the Yaesu VX-5!

Humor me.

I know you want just one antenna to cover the all
Freqs your radio has,But what I would do is get a
Antenna for each band and connect a coax 3 way switcher
and label it.

And also a magnet mount and will not work as well
as a good grounded antenna to the vehicle frame I have
found anyway.
