Happy Holidays Gang,
I have a FT-857 on the way. Has anyone had any dealings with this rig? Ease of programing etc. Your thoughts.

One word of caution:The smaller the rig the bigger the manual and the FT-857 is small. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I love mine.Got the DSP unit set up for TX as well and get nothing but good comments.Worked 3DA0TM today from the mobile on 20 and got great audio report with a 5x8 with just a Hamstick antenna while most bases at the time were no better .He hardly believed I was mobil.I know it's all in the conditions at the time but the audio was what stood out.Programming is a small pain but all (most) rigs today are, especially setting the alpha-numeric displays. Was looking for a good rig for the mobile and found the perfect one.

I been using the Yaesu FT-857 for about month, so far I am very pleased with it. Small foot print for all band rig. Just added the Tarheel M100 screwdriver antenna and boss controller, now it is so simple to use it. Will review again in couple month. If you have any questions or comments , please feel free to e-mail me.

I liked the 857 so much I went out and got a FT-897 for the QTH. ...You can't go wrong for the $!

WHEN THE RIG WORKES IT IS GREAT. MINE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 2 TIMES IN THE 4 MONTHS THAT I HAVE HAD IT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM HOPEONG THAT THEY FIXED IT THIS TIME. I WOULD HATE TO THINK THAT YAESU WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THERE RADIO. AS OF TODAY THEY HAVE HAD IT AS LONG AS I HAVE. SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR HALF?

I also love mine. However, I have had to return it to YAESU twice for repair. One word of caution, this rig will not take ANY high SWR! You MUST have your SWR BELOW 1.5:1 or BETTER for this rig to shine. If you don't, it will cut off the audio peaks of your voice. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
