Service is free.

Register your stolen rig at Rig Register (http://therigregister.com/).

I have no relationship with the vendor.

Is it just me, or do others think this is not a good idea.

It's like putting all your details out there for everyone to see.

Not knocking it, serious points of view or comments from users of this service please.

I don't see how. Yes, you could search on a particular model of equipment and see how many are registered, but no owner data is displayed. As stated on the site: For reasons of data protection, information on owners is not available to the general public. To obtain information you need to be either an accredited organisation or the police service.

What's the difference with QRZ.COM Database?
All your data, including first name, last name, address/pobox, city, country are there as well...
At least QRZ.COM requires a registration in order to display the information but what about the "QRZ clone" sites which are NOT protecting the information at all?
There are some which are "endorsed" by QRZ.COM, I mean QRZ.COM knows that the information are from their database and are reported to the general audience without any protection.
Per info: I've already reported this issue to QRZ.COM, I hope they are working on it.

Thanks for the replies.

My main concern was whether the info on what equipment you owned was easily available to others. Couple that with already available data like your address and callsign info and it would be a burglars picnic.

As it appears (from Vince's) post that no owner data is visibly coupled to the equipment list, it should be OK.

Re the QRZ data - some countries have the licensing authorities database on line for anybody to look up anyway, plus callbooks and other places that list the info on CD etc, so not much you can do about that.

It does strike me as peculiar, in these days of privacy this and privacy that, that this sort of information is so generally available, even from government bodies.

Cheers
