I just uploaded another batch to my log and got the following error:

Update permission denied for log record 46203446 (code 224)

...any idea what that might be?

Are you directly utilizing the QRZ Logbook by using its manual upload feature or are you using and intermediary program to upload it?

I'm uploading my log files (and have been since the beginning) directly to QRZ. Never had any trouble until now.

The response indicates the uploading permission for that particular record has been denied for one of the following reasons:

1. The callsign does not match the logbook user's callsign, or
2. The existing record has already been closed through confirmation or deletion and thus cannot be further modified.

Would that be like if I confirmed an incoming QSO for a contact I had not uploaded yet, but was contained in the upload I just did? It was my callsign and I uploaded to my log, so I don't think it was a callsign issue...

When a QSO record is confirmed or deleted, it is "closed" so that no additonal changes can be made. If it is not a callsign issue, it then must be related to the latter case. I cannot cite the truth table, only the principle, i.e. a situation where the record being uploaded, if accepted, would conflict with an existing closed log record. I assume the work-around would be to delete either one of the conflicting records before the upload.

I think that might have been the problem. I logged into QRZ and saw a couple of QSO waiting for approval. Both of then were new and I had not uploaded my logbook yet. I approved the QSO's, then uploaded my latest logbook. That is when the problem arose. I probably closed those two records then tried to upload over the top of them. Oh well, now I know to upload first, then check for QSOs awaiting approval :-)
