I guess I missed something here. Christmas is not about presents, it's a celebration of the birth of Jesus. If you feel that you must present a gift to someone, consider an honest charitable organization, or buy a needed item for someone less fortunate. We don't exchange gifts at Christmas, but instead, enjoy good food, fellowship, and the warm feeling inside, from knowing that we've helped someone less fortunate than ourselves with needed food, or a coat, or pair of shoes, etc. Just be thankful that you and your loved ones are alive to celebrate, and thank God every day of your life, for it is He that has provided all of your worldly goods.
Merry Christmas to all who may read this,

I think you might have missed something here, I don't direct anything at anyone, that's the way I a'm.
I built my house on rock, so to speak. I am firmly rooted in my Christian beliefs.
I think that the original poster was merely trying to lighten things up, as a buddy of mine always says "That's a good thing"
Sometimes we all take our-selves way too seriously, I know I do sometimes.
I do hope everyone has a merry Christmas, and remember the reason for the season.

John, and anyone else pondering my last post,
Maybe I did miss something, but I in no way intended to offend anyone. And, maybe I am too serious. But, I've found life much more enjoyable without the joking and kidding. I prefer to focus my energies to more productive thinking, and actions. I do admit, however, that sometimes I might make a half-cocked remark, and for this I ask forgiveness. It seems that this internet thing is making its best attempt to lead me down the wrong path. Sometimes, one does not think before giving a response, and must later make amends for such. We are not perfect.......We are human. Out!

That's absolutly right, there was only one that was perfect.
That's why I will never direct a statement towards anyone, that I wouldn't want directed at me. I understand what you're saying.
I just think that if it's in good clean fun, which I love, let it be.
You didn't offend me, as I don't allow this. I can simply shut down, and go on. I do hope to work you and others that post here fairly often on the bands one day.
I think this is an excellent way to post ones opinion, and even have a little fun with it, as long as you don't cross the line.
Personally, I'm going to buy Glen a pocket Protector, I'm broke, and can't afford anything else, HIHIHI.
I wish everyone, A very merry Christmas.
P.S. Jesus is the reason, for the season!

Well..I have not read him in a while, but I would give Harry,N0PU, a box of #2 pencils and a spiral notebook.
Yeah...I am pretty cheap, but if he did nothing but doodle with it, it would help somebody figure something out.

EZE, you are certainly entitled to your beliefs as far as gift giving, and nothing you said should have offended anyone. I think your heart is in the right place.
I'm much more subdued about my faith, but I do know what the IMPORTANT things are in life.
My personal take on gift giving is that it has spiraled out of control. Kids no longer know what Christmas is about. But then again, nobody knows what any of our major holidays are about anymore, religious or secular. Thanksgiving is a good example. Most folks think of it aas a day to stuff one's face and watch football. Memorial Day is a good day for sales and maybe to see some fire engines in a parade. See what I mean? It's not just Christmas that's been lost.
Teach your children what you want them to believe. And whatever that is, it's all good. Just take the time with them and make sure they DO know what it's about.
As a final comment on gift giving; I don't see anything wrong with it. It can be done without the real reason for the holiday being lost. It just takes a little effort. Aren't your beliefs worth the effort? (Not directed at you EZE, I mean that question in general.) As to Christmas gift giving, remember it is rooted in the Wise Men bringing gifts to the newborn King. If the spirit is there and the heart is in the right place, gifts aren't a bad adjunct to the holiday.
Again, everyone is entitled to his or her beliefs. And so far I can't think of any "bad" religions. Many religions have been perverted by bad people for evil gain (Islam by Al Queda and other folks whose names we know but will remain unmentioned; the Church of England was formed by Henry VIII so he could wage war, Catholocism and the Protestant faiths continue to be used as excuses for violence in Northern Ireland, the list is endless . . .) but that's just an aberration - I hope.
I'm climbing down from my soap box now. Thanks for listening.
What ever happened to making the gift yourself? Let's see, for my xyl I can take a set of tinker toys, add some bailing wire and a bit of duct tape and come up with something really useful-- and cheap.
Now for my dog, I will buy him a French Poodle--
See you all in divorce court---

Why shut out those who like to receive? My wife and I do both - we give gifts, and we share with those who need. Can't see limiting myelf to only one way of celebrating Christmas. And limiting my friends and relatives, too.
Why give gifts? Because it's darned enjoyable to see someone's face break into a smile when they receive something they didn't expect. I love it! Yeah, maybe you DO miss something! (And I'm an atheist, by the way - I give to please ME! To make others smile! )
The wife usually gets a couple of turkeys (real ones, frozen ones, not co-workers!) from her employment at Thanksgiving, and again at Christmas. We love turkey. But we hate the mess, so we go out to eat for both holidays, since there are just the two of us, and my Mother. So we give the four turkeys to folks we see who are needy. That's fun, too.
This year in addition we are giving away small amounts of money, and the turkeys, we have been saving for several years in large glass jars. Pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters. Before giving away the jars of coins, though, we'll add an additional $10 to $20 in quarters to each jar. Not much, but it'll buy someone a couple loaves of bread, maybe some milk. Or a couple of hamburgers for the kids. And they won't know where it came from.
Of course, if we go out to eat in the holiday season we tip extra big, not just 15-20 percent, but sometimes 50 percent, depending upon what the meal was. We give the propane delivery man a few bucks. Last year it was $100, this year probably the same.
Then we'll give real gifts to the grandkids and the kids. In other words, we'll do it all rather than taking a narrow focus. It's a bit difficult with me being retired and with medical problems, but we manage every year, and I'm sure we will this year, too. Some folks don't manage, and we love helping them.
I'd say give what you want to give. If it's nothing but love, that's fine. If it's just fellowship, well, that's good, too, though the kids may look around and see other kids with toys and wonder why. I guess it is explainable. And if it's material things, well, the world is made of material things, so that isn't so bad either. Whatever dips your dog.
But I can't see chastizing someone else for celebrating Christmas differently than I do, or you do, or some others do. It's their choice, just as your method is your choice, and my method is my choice.
Now, what can you get me for Christmas? Been thinking about that. Problem is, I just don't "want" anything. No new (or used) ham stuff, no new computer stuff, no new camera stuff, bought all the clothes I need already, new boots, new coat, new shirts. I have what I want. And I have what I need.
So I'm having a hard time giving the wife a clue as to what I may would like. And she's getting frustrated! ('Cause she loves giving, too.) How about paying for my Christmas turkey dinner? (Just kidding, folks - don't send me any money!! ) No, that won't work for her.
Besides, I need to get through Thanksgiving before I start considering Christmas. Darn, way things are going, maybe I should be thinking of Valentine's Day?
Merry Holidays. And a Merry to y'all ...

The date of the birth of Christ is still in debate. The date used and recognized by most Christians started out being a pagan festival day. The early Christians used this time of year so the Romans wouldn’t stop by and do something as antisocial as cutting off their heads or nailing them to sticks.
The true meaning of Christmas has been lost to a lot of folks. No one need to fear the Romans will come by anymore but the tradition remains. There are a lot of folks who celebrate the holidays just because they are holidays but not because of Christ. Some religions are still waiting for their savior.
Back when I was in school there were a lot of Mennonite families in my area. Their kids wanted to do the Christmas thing but their families wouldn’t let them. One year I got a pal a pair of cheap opera glasses for Christmas. His dad came to town and threw them at me screaming lots of stuff about how they did not celebrate pagan holidays.
Left an impression on me.
