60m amp? 60mm amp? I give up. What problem are you having, dood? As long as we're not talking about a Chicken Band amp, I'll try to help.

I know English is difficult for you, so I will type s-l-o-w-l-y.

Over!

First of all, the "Almers" are out on the street panhandling! "Elmers" is the term often used to mean those who help other amateur radio operators.

As for your 60 meter amplifier question: Use of such an amplifier is not legal! You are limited to no more than 50 watts peak output on the 60 meter band. Since the vast majority of amateur radio opeators do not condone illegal operation then I do not think that much help is going to be forthcomming!

If you happen to be in a country that allows more power on this band (there are a few other countries that do allow operation on the 60 meter band) then post your call sign. If it is legal to operate using more than 50 watts peak output from your country then I would suspect that you will get all the help that you require.

If you are not licensed, or if you are operating from the areas that are governed by United States regulations, then this information is not going to come forth! The 60 meter band is primarily a "test" set of frequencies that have been set up by the FCC to see if amateur radio operation is compatible with other services in the same frequency range. It wouldn't take much, like operating with illegal power, to make the FCC reconsider and eliminate the 60 meter band.

SY:

In his previous post he was trying to get help so that he can modify his linear amplifier to run at least 400 watts on the 60 meter band. Since this power level is illegal in the United States and posessions, no one was willing to give him information.

Hey Glen,

Ah. I see. Well we shall see if he posts a call sign.

Are there really commercially available 60 meter amps? Wonder if his is homebrew. If so, how should WE know how to modify it in the first place?

Seems fishy. Snff snff... Is someone wearing Essence of Troll cologne?

By the way, I was going to make a quip about "almers," but I thought I'd spread the Joy and let someone else take it.

An amplifier might be legal on 60 meters , IF and I repeat IF, he is trying to bring a QRP SSB rig up to the alotted power on the band. #However, from the content of his posts, I am not sure if he fully understands all the legal implications of operation on that band. # Heck, I'm not even sure I understand all the legal implications of operation on that band!

Booby, KKQ8960 --

It's not illegal to ask for help. But it IS possible that someone might ask for help in doing something illegal. Does that make sense?

Here, lemme say that again, and I'll type s-l-o-w-e-r this time...

Haw.

Nobody here is going to help someone break the law. We don't know yet if tubeman is trying to break the law, but if he is, he's gonna be s.o.l. seeking help here.

Buh bye.

I focus at the moment on talking on 3.955. after 10 pm local time.......a couple of 40 meter frequencies and a smittering of other HF frequencies around 18 - 21 Mhz...never get up to 12 meters or 10 meters anymore..........but back to the topic of this thread; if he gets any info, he will get it from some one else for I just have read what all you folks have posted and agree with you. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif ***less than 10 days till christmas *** ... kd4amg http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

That is not accurate; on this band they go by ERP. #You are limited to 50 watts effective radiated power with reference to a half wave dipole. #Thus, if your antenna provides 3db of gain, your transmitter output cannot exceed 25 watts (PEP).

This is the only band where the maximum is placed on the ERP instead of tramitter power.

Here is a nice colorful chart (http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/regulations/Hambands_color.pdf) from the ARRL.

WB2WIK
12-16-2003, 11:38 PM
Because this band has an e.r.p. limit and not a power output limit per se, you could run 500W PEP to a -10dBd antenna and be legal.

Or, possibly 5000W into a 60 meter rubber ducky

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I never give advice about operating, amplifiers or much of anything else to anyone who hasn't posted a valid amateur callsign (I check).

K9STH

NI1N:

That is quite true! The 50 watts effective radiated power is from a dipole antenna that has a theoretical gain of 2.14 dB over an isotropic.

In fact, the FCC has basically said that feedline losses should be ignored when a dipole is used unless you are using some "really bad" feedline!

I hope I'm om the correct subject: ELMER or ALMERS.
I do believe it's ELMERS.
Short story this Spring and Summer. I had 2 boys, ages 12 and 9 plus a young lady of 13, of course they were interested in this fansinating service. Well, Spring and Summer past, no interest any longer, Trouble is the answer for them, good, one day they may wake-up and think.
Mother's are all around me and the children, heck with Mother, the childern "WERE" showing the interest, at that time.
No longer, the interest is lost, maybe next year, if I'm alive.
Too much extra work is also a possible problem, I don't konw.

Kids find the great enjoyment of shooting B-B's or Pellet rounds at car windows, house windows, totally destroying Federal Mailbox Locks, flattening automobile tires, anything else I left out ?

Why should I spend time helping kids to better themselves and "LEARNING" something new? WHY?

I dunno. It doesn't take all kinds to make a world. You make a world, you'll get all kinds. And, unfortunately, not all of them can be saved.

A couple years ago, at a VE session, a couple from an Appalachian county refused to take a test. Neither one of them could read, so we volunteered to read the questions to them. But they declined our offer when we refused their request to only read the correct answers to them. They wanted us to give them the answers. They thought the "test" session was just a fancy name for a licensing session. That the rules that govern licensing were so much paperwork, nothing more. Ham radio was just something they heard about on CB. They decided to stay on CB.
