http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif New years resolutions for 2004...hmmm... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif what should I resolve to TRY to do ? 1) be nicer in print and in person ...2)if I can not say something nice, to remain quiet ( gonna be a lot of silence around here...(lol) ). ...3)save more money ( for that $11,000 Icom rig...suuure ). ...4)listen more on the radio & talk less. ...5)drive more sensibly ( get a dozen eggs and put one at a time under the gas petal and see how long I can go before I break it ...gonna be cleaning up a lot of eggs in the floorboard ). ...6) help teach others the fun and art of tower climbing ( so when I get too old to climb mine, some one will know how and can fix my antennas ). ...7) help " no - coders " learn how to pass the WRITTEN test for GENERAL class licence. ...8)give folks " radio checks " on 2 meter repeaters , however I shall resolve to wait at least 5 minutes before I answer them. ... 9)spend less time on the internet and doing some of the stuff mentioned earlier in this list. ...10)lose at least 10 pounds ( climb my 42 foot tower more often and faster ). What are your resolutions for the year 2004 ?

My new years resolution is to continue with my fitness program until I can run in the next philadelphia marathon. Only 16 more miles!

I made a new years resolution about 6 or 7 years ago. And that was to not make anymore new years resolutions.

And that's the only one that I've kept to this day.

To pass the code test (while there is still one to pass) and the General test on the same day. After that, study up and build my own radio......ah yes....tubes and CW.... It's the reason I got into AR in the first place!

But then digital seems like fun too.

It was 2 weeks and I studied enough to pass the code and written on the tec+. And 2 weeks, I studied enough to pass my general. So if I can do it, anyone can because I don't have a very good memory.

And the code is like falling off a log. I know a person that went to the test and just has the dots and dashes memorized on paper. He said the code was so slow, that he took a scratch paper and wrote the dots and dashes down, and when the test was over, he translated it to the test paper and passed a perfact score.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ok i also resolve not to : 1) verbally agitate, aggravate or otherwise verbally put down " no - code tecks " for not passing their 5 wpm morse code test . I KNOW I did for about 6 months of this year ( from about May through last week ), and I will not talk of " how far I have talked on HF, or WHO I heard on HF, or any thing similer " in the future, since I know they can not be there to attempt to talk to the same folks....you know, kind of like the "be nice to others " resolution mentioned earlier...who knows; if I can succeed at this for about 10 years, I might accidently have a friend or two !!.....2) be nicer to CB operators, since most of them dont know what it is like to be a general class AMATEUR radio operator. I could let them talk about their " echo mikes, amplifiers, who they talked to the other night in some far off county " , etc, etc, etc., like I used to do. But it still amazes me about 27 Mhz, how much power it takes to transmit a signal such a short distance ( lol ).{ kinds makes ya feel sorry fer them }...back to 3.955....kd4amg

UZR......thanx for the thoughts. I just about have the general stuff down. Just have to study the RF Safety stuff and memorize the freqs. I going to start the code after Christmas and the next test date is in Feb. I'm going for the same score as the Tech test. 100%

2004 resolutions? I know there are more, but here are a few...

Yell at the kids less or more - what ever is appropriate.

Attempt to understand my teenage daughter in any way humanly possible.

Teach my parrot to say "Shiver Me Tembers" - he just can't / or won't do it.

Get my Advanced Ticket in January.

Get some kind of Antenna to actually work in my forsaken CCR neighborhood that has there own Attorney on retention. How many times can a person actually hear they have "grass in their crack" with out taking it personal...

Well, I guess the humor was misplaced.... He did ask for serious and non-serious and I thought a little levity was a good thing. I am sorry if you took all the items on my list as completely serious...

The housing restrictions are probably the only thing I wish I could find a resolution for...

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ...toher folks lving in this home have advised me that there are NO plans to get any more AMATEUR radio equipment, coax, antennas, or any thing electronic for me for Christmas...so I guess it is " blue jeans, t - shirts and boxer underwear " for another year . But the spirit is in GIVING and no recieving ; ...so I can cooperate with that idea !! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

No wonder your parrot can't say "tembers". He has a built-in spell checker! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Just mount it in the bottom of a 200' deep hole. Less wind resistance that way! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

To add a shiny new Orion and a smooth old bug to the shack, and get the best out of both.

Almost forgot: To pass the extra exam Jan. 17!

Mine is to get a key hooked up and try CW.

After all I had to take a test to get on the air, why not try to use it to make some contact.

To survive long anough to make 2005 New Year's Resolutions

To convince myself I have moved to a warmer climate

To get rid of useless antennas

Lose a few more pounds

Try to determine if I like ham radio or if it is just an old habit

Keep the friends I have

Now I said I don't make anymore resoulutions, but I'm planning to get into CW next year as soon as I get my carpoles tunnel operation.

I've been unable to do code because of it. And I want to find a bonified R,R, or 1800's Telegraph office key.

Then I can "Chat" with you on the Key...
