hello everyone !!! just wondering if anybody has info on how good the mfj-1621 portable antenna works. im unable to put up another antenna on my roof i already have a 2 meter 440 but was thinking of using the mfj 1621 and put it up in my attic as a temp antenna. i know its a bit tricky to tune but im thinking once it is it will work fine. no room for a dipole just want a antenna i can put up and take down in a jiffy. soooo anybody have one can you tell me how good it works for you..thanks...dave......any input would be great...thanks

It'll work in a pinch, just don't expect much out of it at all. #It's exactly as advertised - an emergency antenna when nothing else will work or fit. #One thing about this model is that the tuner is located in the base of the antenna, so if you install it in the attic, be prepared to go up and retune every time you switch bands. #Not fun.

The 1621 was my first antenna, and looking back, I would have got something different, like a Buddipole or a OutBacker. #The 1621 is just too limiting. #So that'll be my advice - look for something bigger. #Also, you might want to think about finding another QTH where you can set up whatever antenna you would like. #If you like to camp, you could set up a G5RV or something of that sort.

I have one of these, and used it when I lived in an apartment, and found it to be a disappointment. It's barely acceptable as an HF antenna (it does work, but marginally), and tuning it when changing bands is a royal pain, as the controls are on the base of the antenna itself, so I would never recomend sticking one in an attic. You might consider a dipole of some sort with a decent tuner..you'll make more contacts with a better signal than the 1621 will radiate.
