The obvious is it's an Iraqi internal court and penalty for crimes against his people. But rumour here has him asking Jacque Chirac for asylum in Paris!

Mr. Saddam, as any human being(?), has the right to have a fair and impartial trial by a jury of his peers.
Then shot.
Anybody want to start a pool on how many Saddam threads get started? I think we're up to 3.

If it's true, it's hilarious that Saddam's first words to the soldiers who found him was "I am Saddam Hussein, President of Iraq, and I am ready to negotiate!" or something to that effect.
I wonder how much negotiating power he figures he has about now?
Probably at this point, we should pull out all our troops and let the suicide bombers just blow each other up, since there is seemingly no end to their activities, with or without Saddam.
Wait. Maybe we can offer Saddam a $25 Million reward to tell us where Bin Laden is?
WB2WIK/6
I remember reading that an ancient Caliph sentenced a rival to be blinded, have his right hand and left foot cut off, and be exiled to a remote village, there to live by begging for the charity of strangers -- who would have no idea that the wretched beggar by the roadside once commanded armies and slaughtered thousands.

In a airplane, "low and slow" is a very bad thing.
In this situation, after being proven guilty, which I believe he is, they should hang him low and slowly stone him.
However, I do believe in the the saying, " those without sin cast the first stone.
This is a tough issue, there will be a reckoning, that I can assure you of.

In the days of Abdur Rahman (supreme leader of Afghanistan prior to Amanullah Khan in 1919), thieves and murderers were placed in an iron cage, which was then hoisted on a tall wooden post The cage and post were at an altitude that made it impossible for an individual( if he was lucky enough to find out the secret location) to pass food, poison, or a saw to the captive inside the cage. The prisoner was then left in the cage to die.
Since this ingenious method probably wont fly, you can expect Saddam to be executed after his war crimes tribunal sentences him. Hanging or lethal injection would be the most common methods suggested, but one cannot rule out a firing squad. Many Arab and SouthEast Asian countries have not yet adopted lethal injection, and all of this is relative to the location that Mr. Hussein will meet his untimely end.

From the picture, they should give him a bar of soap.
He can act as 'BACKSTOP FOR THE MARINE CORPS PISTOL TRAINING RANGE AT PARRIS ISLAND, SC'
OR two words 'Target Practice'
Or 'bomb checker to make sure all are good - hits bomb with hammer, If good, blows up. If bad, doesn't!'
And the #1 thing to do with Saddam..
Pork checker at Oscar Mayer Bacon plant. He has to taste test one slice of each 100 packages of bacon.
Then he gets to backstop bullets.

Here's an idea
Let him help prepare the pork, drop a box of bullets in the blood and pig parts, then take a nice drive out to the range.
Best of all, how about having a shooting contest between the men and the women just to ensure we get the desired effect.
Oh heck, let the Marine's watch for enjoyment while his own folks do the shooting -- you know, to keep it in the family and make up for all of those mass graves!

It's simple... we turn him over to the Iraqi's and let them try him for his crimes. They will most decidedly give him a death sentence, so what else is there? Kill him. Personally, I would make him suffer like he made his people suffer http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . But that's just me.
G7HEU
03-03-2004, 12:20 AM
Which Iraqi's should he be turned over to?
W5HTW
03-03-2004, 02:15 AM
Realistically?
If we could prove he was behind the 9/11 attacks, then we could try him for nearly 3,000 murders. Otherwise, he hasn't done a darned thing to the United States! He attacked Kuwait in the first Gulf War, and we put him back inside his box, which was our intention.
We can hold him, as we are doing, but we really don't have anything to charge him with. That's why he is listed as a POW, and is not being held as a war criminal, or for murder, etc. I think we hope to hold him as a POW long enough for the Iraqi people to set up their own Democratic form of government (and they are making some strides in that direction) and then we can turn him over to them. As we should. The crimes he committed were against the Iraqis, not against the US. I believe he would fear most being turned over to his own people, for they had 30 years of his brutal rule, whereas we would give him full trial rights. If we had a charge to try him on.
There is no way he would escape the death penalty in an Iraqi trial. Whether they would sanction torture of him is doubtful, but it could happen. I would think a solid trial, perhaps not quick, and a very public execution would wind it up. But the US should not be involved in any way, as doing so would antagonize various factions in Iraq, and rightly so.
Ah, but for the 'short' answer -- let him be caught trying to escape!
