View Full Version : Contact Santa's Workshop on HF

The Idaho State RACES group has been providing a local hospital with an experience that bring smiles and fun to many children who are being treated for cancer related illnesses. Two years ago we expanded our service to children who were inpatients at the regular hospital across the street.

These children get a chance to talk to Santa or one of his helpers at the North Pole Workshop by way of HF radio. Because Santa knows all children, he has a very personal conversation with them and usually finds out what they might want for Christmas. All who are involved have fun and enjoy that very special Christmas Spirit that we are looking for.

If you would like to provide a member of your family with that same special opportunity to talk to Santa at the North Pole Workshop, please do the following:

Fill out the personal information about your child by clicking on the link. Santa's Workshop (http://www.the-one.com/id/SantasWorkshop.php)

Tune into 7.284Mhz (+/_ for qrm) on December 15th starting at 5:00 pm MST and make a QSO with Santa's Workshop by calling for WC7BDS. Santa's Workshop will be making contacts with hams starting with the Eastern Time Zone first and then working across the USA ending at the Pacific Time Zone. Everyone is welcome.

Please remember to fill out the form as soon as you can. It will be sent directly to Santa's Workshop and must be received before Santa will make contact with you.

Question may be emailed to Doug W7DVR at doug@the-one.com

This is one of the greatest ideas to come along since sliced bread. This will bring some big smiles to some deserving kids from hams with a BIG HEART. Keep up the good work and may God bless you and each of your family members!

Sorry, Santa...couldn't find you on 40m tonight...too much QRM. #Neat idea. #I told the kids you must've been working late in the shop.

It was a great idea but IMHO band conditions were poor and Santa's Helpers need some radio training!

Merry Xmas,Mike (Dad),Trevor (age eight) and Emily (age eight)

I'm Listening. #Please tell me what we could have done to make it work better? We plan on doing it again next year so we are open to good ideas.

The operator that I heard ran through his call sign list as if the shack was on fire, what's the rush? I tried to break but I guess the op could't hear me. Your idea is great, but time is passing for my kids and Santa will be fiction by next Xmas (2004) . 73, Mike

The Schaumburg (Il) Amateur Radio Club is planning on visiting children in local hospitals next year at Christmas to give the kids a chance to talk to Santa via ham radio. Over the years I have read many times how other groups have done this. I would like to contact some of these groups for background information and possibly copies of press clippings or other documentation. We figure some hospital administrators might be leary and I wanted to have some supportive information available. Please contact me directly at NeblJM@aol.com if you can be of any assistance.
Thank You.
