I got this e-mail today, and thought it might make a good thread since there were many heated debates about the Iraqi war earlier this year.

OK, so it's a little slanted in favor Bush. Yet, even MSNBC reported last week that 74% of all Iraqis say they want the U.S. troops to remain as long as it takes to get the job done. Bush seems to have more support in Iraq than he does in the US. Reading the following, you'll understand why.

***

Since President Bush declared an end to major combat on May 1...

... the first battalion of the new Iraqi Army has graduated and is on active duty.

... over 60,000 Iraqis now provide security to their fellow citizens.

... nearly all of Iraq's 400 courts are functioning.

... the Iraqi judiciary is fully independent.

... on Monday, October 6 power generation hit 4,518 megawatts-exceeding the prewar average.

... all 22 universities and 43 technical institutes and colleges are open, as are nearly all primary and secondary schools.

... by October 1, Coalition forces had rehab-ed over 1,500 schools - 500 more than scheduled.

... teachers earn from 12 to 25 times their former salaries.

... all 240 hospitals and more than 1200 clinics are open.

... doctors salaries are at least eight times what they were under Saddam.

... pharmaceutical distribution has gone from essentially nothing to 700 tons in May to a current total of 12,000 tons.

... the Coalition has helped administer over 22 million vaccination doses to Iraq's children.

... a Coalition program has cleared over 14,000 kilometers of Iraq's 27,000 kilometers of weed-choked canals which now irrigate tens of thousands of farms. This project has created jobs for more than 100,000 Iraqi men and women.

... we have restored over three-quarters of prewar telephone services and over two-thirds of the potable water production.

... there are 4,900 full-service telephone connections. We expect 50,000 by year-end.

... the wheels of commerce are turning. From bicycles to satellite dishes to cars and trucks, businesses are coming to life in all major cities and towns.

... 95 percent of all prewar bank customers have service and first-time customers are opening accounts daily.

... Iraqi banks are making loans to finance businesses.

... the central bank is fully independent.

... Iraq has one of the worlds most growth-oriented investment and banking laws.

... Iraq has a single, unified currency for the first time in 15 years.

... satellite TV dishes are legal.

... foreign journalists aren't on 10-day visas paying mandatory and extortionate fees to the Ministry of Information for minders and other government spies.

... there is no Ministry of Information.

... there are more than 170 newspapers.

... you can buy satellite dishes on what seems like every street corner.

... foreign journalists (and everyone else) are free to come and go.

... a nation that had not one single element - legislative, judicial or executive - of a representative government, now does.

... in Baghdad alone residents have selected 88 advisory councils. Baghdad's first democratic transfer of power in 35 years happened when the city council elected its new chairman.

... today in Iraq chambers of commerce, business, school and professional organizations are electing their leaders all over the country.

... 25 ministers, selected by the most representative governing body in Iraq's history, run the day-to-day business of government.

... the Iraqi government regularly participates in international events. Since July the Iraqi government has been represented in over two dozen international meetings, including those of the UN General Assembly, the Arab League, the World Bank and IMF and, today, the Islamic Conference Summit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today announced that it is reopening over 30 Iraqi embassies around the world.

... Shia religious festivals that were all but banned, aren't.

... for the first time in 35 years, in Karbala thousands of Shiites celebrate the pilgrimage of the 12th Imam.

... the Coalition has completed over 13,000 reconstruction projects, large and small, as part of a strategic plan for the reconstruction of Iraq.

... Uday and Queasy are dead - and no longer feeding innocent Iraqis to the zoo lions, raping the young daughters of local leaders to force cooperation, torturing
Iraq's soccer players for losing games, or murdering critics.

... children aren't imprisoned or murdered when their parents disagree with the government.

... political opponents aren't imprisoned, tortured, executed, maimed, or are forced to watch their families die for disagreeing with Saddam.

... millions of long suffering Iraqis no longer live in perpetual terror.

... Saudis will hold municipal elections.

... Qatar is reforming education to give more choices to parents.

... Jordan is accelerating market economic reforms.

... the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded for the first time to an Iranian -- a Muslim woman who speaks out with courage for human rights, for democracy and for peace.

... Saddam is gone.

... Iraq is free.

... President Bush has not faltered or failed.

... Yet, little or none of this information has been published by the Press corps
that prides itself on bring you all the news that's important.

Iraq under US lead control has come further in six months than Germany did in seven
years or Japan did in nine years following WWII. Military deaths from fanatic
Nazi's, and Japanese numbered in the thousands and continued for over three years
after WWII victory was declared.

It took the US over four months to clear away the twin tower debris, let alone attempt
to build something else in its place.

- No need to comment any further -

It is not a question of "...may have missed..." at all!

Thanks to the liberal-controlled media (exception: Fox News, thank goodness), VERY FEW "good" things are reported from the Middle East. There is intentionally nothing to "miss", since the liberals simply don't WANT it to be reported.

Good news about our SUCCESSES over there are deliberately squelched by the liberal press to undermine public support for our troops, disparage our President, and foment the public's discontent.

Thanks for bringing this post up!

That is wonderful news! As poverty and crime, murders, shootings, homelessness and the like run rampant here at home, our "government" sees fit to continue to be the worlds babysitter. But now nothing can be done about our domestic troubles here, because this regime...(oops!..administration http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif) has done the same as all others of that right wing group, and squandered away a budget surplus, into another record deficit. I'm glad things are getting to be so much better in Iraq, so Bush can fly over there and get a JOB next November! Enough of this garbage already! I look around me and see jobs being lost by the thousands, most going to China, a country that has abundant human rights violations.
I watch television and see where there is a constant plea for food donations as the local food banks are empty.
The local Salvation Army claims toy donations are at an all time low because of declining economy and job loss.
Far too many people cannot afford medication because our government will not stop the ever rising cost of drugs, such as the Canadian Government has done for their people.
Our states have all had to raise taxes because of government cut-backs.
Just about all school districts are in desperate need of taxes because of the cut-backs and lack of federal funding.
And yet, our government can ask for and receive eighty seven billion dollars to rebuild Iraq and their infrastucture.
Too make this even worse, we had no business there in the first place, as the Iraq people or government never did anything against the United States, nothing!
Even worse is the amount of our young men being sacrificed, for what? Since this United States was not attacked by Iraq, they cannot be killed in defence of our country as some in the media like to say.
I pray daily that we should bring our men home immediately from this danger, and spend this $87million here at home where it belongs.
And when one reads this latest fiasco regarding the "prescription drug plan", again it is clear we are getting the shaft once more.
Rant done! Bob TBTM

A slight correction on my last post, I wrote $ 87 million, should have read $ 87 Billion with a "B"
Also, to those trying to classify those as " liberals, and conservatives" by responses to the post, please don't be confused. I for one have voted mostly for the conservative candidates since 1948, and I did vote for the present president, But, I do not and did not agree with getting our kids killed for no good reason, and Iraq is not a good reason.
Further more, I don't agree with this idea of giving our tax money to any foreign government when there is so much need here at home.

You got it. I'm a liberal and proud. And as I am getting older I am becoming even more so ( I guess we all get more extreme as we age.) Just because liberals like me are opposed to the war does not mean that we want our troops to be harmed. I am happy that Iraqis have a better life now. But I am sad that even a single US soldier died. I am also sad that Iraqis died; is it wrong to feel that way? Some conservatives seem to think that liberals are baby-killers and would like our military to disappear so we can all be overrun by commies. Just like there are extreme "conservatives", there are extreme "liberals". We are not all alike. How funny, I personally think the mainstream "media" is too conservative and gives our President a free-pass. You see, it is all a matter of perspective.

But seriously, I thought this was a Ham Radio forum. What is the point of even bringing up inflammatory thinks like politics and religion? Isn't that one of the things your mom told you to not bring up with total strangers, since emotions tend to run high.

THings could be handeled better then it has been, but it is still great news that all of these good things are happening.

As much as it hurts to lose even one soldier, I think, in the end, we ARE doing the right thing. America has long been thought as only caring for itself, but I think we've done more good in the world than any other country has...

Truth be told, and no offense to anyone, I'm more afraid of what a leftwing liberal could to Amercia when in power than a conservative. Me myself, I like a nice healthy mix of both. I think its bad for there to be an imbalance of any one of the two... problems seem to happen when that "check" is eliminated.

You are missing the big picture! Once Iraq is pacified and falls in line with the other puppet oil producing middle eastern states (who owe us) oil will flow cheaply and uninterruptedly into our big fat corrupt Corporate/Political machine. Then we americans can continue to feel good about our gas guzzling traditions.
Is there any wonder why we are so hated in the world?

Unfortunately we have spilling over onto QRZ the thing we as Americans are being starved from doing: Exercising our freedom of speech, debate, and dissent.
These are the greatest freedoms we as Americans possess, but due to the politically correct climate in the land we feel ashamed to make waves.
I tell you, freedom of speech is not only a right, it is also a duty. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance (on the part of the people NOT the government).....and I can tell you It ain't happening right now.

What a complete load of crap. There is no such thing as "the liberal media". Most of the newsies out there are nothing but cheerleaders for the neo-con fools we now have running this country. Fox "News" is nothing but a 24/7 Republican campaign commercial just like Limbaugh, Hannity and all of the rest of the right wing crackpots.

Bush is a complete loser and a fraud. Drunken frat boy who got what he has through connections, rather than any real hard work. Don't forget his military AWOL either. That's why it's particularly galling for me to see that boob dressed up in flight suit, or wearing an Army jacket. What a disgrace to real military men.

No problem "bgo" to solve the same issues here. #Just suspend the constitution, declare martial law, and shoot criminals on sight.

Put someone from the state department in charge and remove our form of government, constitution, etc. #Put together a group of folks crossectional of the popularion and give them 2 years to write a new constitution.

And, close the stock exchange.

Starting to get the picture??

We have an economy based on the whim of the stock market. #The days after 9/11, our economy went down hill. #Why? #You and I still did the same work as we did on 9/10, our companies still did the same things too. #Consumers still were out there spending money. #So, why did the economy die? #

Because stock owners panicked causing stock values to go down. Our econonomy is not based on the health of companies, work being acomplished, people with jobs, etc. #It is based on the positive change in the value of stock prices.

All the things so called "liberals" and "conservatives" whine about are related to the difference in opinion on what is good for the country. #Jobs go to foreign lands because it helps the profit of the company and that increases stock value. #

The answer we all don't want to hear is that we need to tie the worth of a company to the real world, not to it's stock price. #The system we have now has evolved into a method for a few people to bilk money out of the economy with no tie to the well being of the people. #We are supposed to buy stock to get into the big game just like the big guys.

Like the general trend in our lives, everything is the "look", the "scene", the "sound bite", the "reputation", "public opinion". #We are a society hooked on superficiality. #One of my company VPs once said, it ain't the steak that sells, it's the sizzle. #We are a society eating a diet of rancid meat and liking it because it sizzles. #Increased stock prices sizzle, but have no tie to the real meat of a company.

Company worth was once tied to number of employees, quality of benefits, quality of product, service to customers, and longevity. #But we are a fickle "sale" oriented consumer, aren't we? #We want the low, low prices of Wall Mart at the expense of local businesses. #We want free cellphone minutes, .02 cent per minute LD, cheap cars etc. So companies have to make up the loss in profit some how, and usually it is foreign labor. layoffs, centralized customer service, minimum wage employes, cheap workmanship.

Most of the people whining about loss of jobs here all shop at Wall Mart, they have cell phones, they use cheap LD, many wear, eat, watch, #or drive foreign products.

You want to fix things? #Freeze stock prices and start over. #Set the value of a company's stock to a "value index" based on percent customer complaints (quality of product), number of employees, employee longevity, company benefits, company real profits not tied to stock, realism of company officer pay to company profits, use of American raw materials and people over foreign sources and people. #The only way for a company's stock price to go up is to improve the company. #The only way for it to go down is to be a bad company.

Fix the tax laws so everyone pays taxes based on equal porportion to income. #Cap personal wealth at 500 million or some percentage based on the GNP. #Set executive income based on success, but also the pay of workers. #A company's minimum wage should be tied to a percentage related to the CEO's and executive pay.

Put caps on lawyer settlements, suit amounts. #Require doctors to report mistakes to authorities or go to jail. #Publicize the mistake lists and then cap malpractice suits. Three mistakes and a Doctor is out. #They have to go back to school for 4 years before they can get back into practice. Require Doctors and Lawyers to do 10 hours per week pro bono work. #Cap medical costs and health care costs. #If a healthcare company denies a legit claim, post it in every newspaper in the country.

Do you relize that if you make $50,000 it takes you 20 years to earn $1M bucks? In a 30 year career you earn $1.5M. #Tell me that CEO pay, pro athelete pay, and legal settlements of more than $1.5M make any sense at all. #

You want to fix things? #Stop whining about Bush and Al Gore. Make political parties illegal. #Throw out everybody in office in congress now, they can't run again for 8 years, and they're gagged from supporting any candidate or campaigning for any candidate. Nobody from the Bush, Gore, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Ford, Eisenhower, families or any family currently in congressional office can run for any office, because it isn't about ploitical parties, it's about people. #Cap campaign money contributions and ax all soft money. #

Disband all labor unions for 5 years. #Same rules apply when they reform in 5 years as for politicans above. #All new votes must be taken before union representation of a company. #In other words, the movement starts from scratch with new people and new votes.

Nothing short of revolution will fix the direction we're going in, so don't whine to me about Democrats and Republicans. The political parties and those who support them are as guilty as fat cat CEOs and leaching stock market executives for the direction we're headed. #When you say "investor" I see a school of mackrel fish that spook and change direction at the movement of a shadow in the water. #The political arguments on Ham Radio sound to me like Archie Bunker vs Rush Limbaugh.

And don't ask me about the middle east. #No matter what side you're on, you won't like the answer.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Some one mentioned that this area is a " ham radio forum ".......well... if who ever owns this web site ( qrz.com ) is willing to let us ( and YOU ) discuss items such as these, without being barred or censored, then what is the problem ? I am IN FAVOR of folks discussing other IMPORTANT issues concerning them, their neighbors or relatives, even IF it has nothing to do with AMATEUR RADIO at that particular moment. If I dont like what I read, I have several options ( and you already know what they are ). Once again, I am IN FAVOR of this subject being in this forum. It is important to let folks know all the facts about a subject, not just what the " network news folks WANT us to know for their 30 minute evening news casts ". Those of you who are providing the information, please carry on, tell us more, and spread out to different subjects, also. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif kd4amg

not ham radio talk and opinions, and I'm happy that some subjects show up worthy of discussion, and war is worthy.
I still maintain this war was not necessary, and or legal as I cannot find one thing that Saddam has done to this country, so why are we actually so hell bent on his death and capture, and why was it necessary for so many people to die?
Maybe the world is better off without him, but who are we to act as world judge and jury?
In the month of June, 1967, one of our Navy ships, in international waters the USS Liberty, was attacked by Israel, where 34 American Sailors died and another 172 were injured, some very serious. This attack was un-provoked and relentless and lasted over 75 minutes, now I ask, Where was the outcry and why did we not retaliate? yet we attack countries like Iraq because Saddam " might do something bad to us".

Maybe this is the way our politcians solve the un-employment problem, send someone elses kids out to die.

Yes, but do you remember the attitude the American People had toward the Veterans of that unpopular war? It took years of adjustment before some of them got over the resentment and ill feelings that they perceived were directed at THEM, and indeed, some of them are STILL not over it!

Are we going to look upon the soldiers that return from this war as Heros, or as a bunch of victims of a President that was seeking vengeance for his "father's embarassment"! ( my paraphrase of a common opinion )

I believe a lot of that depends on how the news media chooses to hold back or release information to the U.S. Citizen.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of us that accept what we hear ( and don't hear ) at face value and don't research all the information we can get our hands on enough in order to have a complete understanding about the subject at hand, and to make up our OWN minds based upon that research.

Then the "spin" gets carried to the next level, and soon you hear some of the most unbelievable half-truths and inuendos being presented as "gospel" by people who should know better!

I, for one, am thankful for this post. It presents a different side of a story that we have not been all that exposed to.

Religion and politics are dangerous (and related) subjects because they are entirely about what you believe and how you feel about what you believe. It's not likely that anyone here is going to change how I feel about the president or what I believe about him.

I'm not sure whether we should be talking politics in this forum or not, but irregardless, I wish that everyone that doesn't think like I do and believe what I do would quit posting.

Whether it is true or not, its credibility has been questioned by the Spam and postings of this material from one end of the Internet to the other. #It has distinctly made it to several Urban Legend Sites.
