The supplied battery on mine is a BP-173 650mAh 9.6v Ni-Cd which enables 5w output on 2m and 4.5w on 70cm. Operating period is stated to be 4.3 hours on a Tx:Rx:Standby ratio of 1:1:8 minutes.
The BP-170 AA battery pack looks like a good buy -- only gives you 2w out but 20 hours operation on the same ratios as for the Ni-Cd.
Nice radio, seems to be good Rx front-end, Icom build quality excellent. #I like it.
Hope this helps.

As far as the batteries are concerned you could look at Batteries America

I halve a icom t7h the standard battery pack is good as long as you dont do a lots of talking on it i use mine as a base in my front room conected to a momebrew 1/4 wave vert hanging from the cealing works grate. I use the nicad pack most of the time at low power, cheaper to replace nicads then the stock battery pack. It puts out less power but sounds good so im told , programing takes some learning i like the radio espechally with the external speaker mike, i use a icom
external speaker mike . Its a small one . the seaker is ok dont overdrive it and it shuld last longer and sound ok . over all the radio is a good bye for me .I wish the battery pack where bigger it would make for a bigger radio ,the intent for a handheld is to be a compact handheld transeaver not a base staion so keep that in mind kd7mdw http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
