I just recieved 2 ft 1500m radios that I purchased. One for me and one for my girlfriend who is soon to become a ham.
Im having a problem finding something Im sure has to be on this radio like all the other radios I have.
Where is the memory channel number display on this radio?
When programming a memory channel it shows ch1, ch2 and so forth, but after programming the memory channel, the memory channel display number does not show. So when Im on the road talking to my gal and tell her to qsy to a certain memory channel number (because our 2 radios will be programmed exactly alike) how will she find that channel fast. I dont think it would be a good operating practice for the both of us to have to read all the alphanumerics to find the correct channel, especially when Im driving. Nowhere on manual pages 23 and 24 is there an indication that there are memory channel NUMBERS to be displayed. With over 100 possible memory channels, theres going to be a problem without a memory channel number display.

ps. On page 24 of the operators manual, it explains how to recal memory channels from the microphone. Thats cool.
Lets say you want to go to memory channel 5. Your press 5 and then the * button. Question is. How would you remember what channel 5 was 24 hours after programming channel 5. Certainly after a few days, weeks and months, you wont be able to remember what channel 5 is, or channel 10-100.
This cant be happening.

So please help me with this. Wheres the memory channel NUMBER display? Please send any reply or help to my email countingontime@hotmail.com

thanks

Hello Holland - why don't you try naming the frequencies that you are going to use with your girlfriend. Just a thought. Good luck! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif you can go by the idea mentioned above.. but to answer your question...on my yeasu ft - 1500 there is NO memory channel number, so I have to click through the memories till I find the one I want, just like you do...I thought for a while it was one of those " itty bitty " icons on the top of the display but it is not...ssssssssssso I guess your chioces are : 1 ) ID them with... e.g.: BILL & EDNA REPEATER ... letters. etc to identify them other than the frequencies... or ... 2) id them with ..e.g.: CH...2 CH... 3 and so on. ...I especially like the 2 seperate SQUELCH controls in the menu... RF squelch & NOISE squelch. ...hope things work great for you & radios & girl friend ( tell her she is real lucky to have a man like you )... kd4amg

Found it !!! On page 26, its hidden in some topic about masking memories. Its not show on the display on page 3 and not written about in the book. But on page 39 under (Set Mode Details ) is under CH NUM.
The default is OFF which it should be ON. Who wants a memory channel displayed without its designated number.
Now speaking of the 1 second flash of the memory channel number you will see after turning this function on,................. I dont like it either, but its better than having no channel memory number displayed at all.
Dont like this feature about the radio and the manual needs to be a little more apparent with this function that is very important.
Thanks for yall replies !

the alpha-numeric is 6 digits. Put your channel number in the first one or 2 digits, blank space, then tag with an I.D. of some kind with the remaining 3-4 digits. Just my 2 cents worth.
