(http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/fm_txvrs/3780.html) they have some specs. on it. #It is only $279 too. #Over 1,000 memory channels, and 40 watts on the UHF side (compared to the average 35 watts). #It does not have cross-band repeat. #So, if you want that feature, you are out of luck. #The price is great, though. #Great extended receive with the aircraft band. #A nice looking radio, in my opinion...but still no metal microphone jack http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Thanks! Nice looking rig. Wish they would go back to the screw-on metal mic connector. Larry .~.

I am curious. (NO snide remarks allowed!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. I have 6 Icom mobiles with the modular phone type of mic connector. No problems. Are there problems with this? Seems like a good way to to to me.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Hi, Tom. All in all, I suppose the modular type connectors are good. If nothing else, they are certainly inexpensive and fairly easy to install. It's just that my Yaesu FT-8000 dual bander has a modular connector and it has come out of the receptacle several times. That little thin piece of plastic is starting to wear out, I guess. Now, as far as the wiring, it has not come loose at all! I guess I shouldn't gripe too much, I've had the rig 7 years or so, haha.

I have been looking over the specs for the 7800. It seems to be a nice radio. Guess that is what I need to go with since they quit manufacturing the FT90R.
As far as the modular plugs go, I had an incident where my golden retriever was so excited to go for a ride that she jumped in the front seat and ripped the mic cable right out of the socket of my 2500. It required going to Rad Shack to get a new one and put it back together.
Wasn't too hard to do, but now I use a cable tie approx 2 inches from where the mic plugs in a tie it off to the bracket. Sucker hasn't come out since.

I had no intentions of buying a Yaesu mobile. Did plenty of research on many radios all brands. When I sat down at HRO and tested the 4 radios I liked. The Yaesu won. The Icoms had weird reviews the shape of Kenwoods the less expensive radios that is, did not fit my liking. I have a Kenwood FG-6A and hardley ever use the dual receive... then I thought if duel receive is needed Ill use my HT and have tri-recieve. The FT-7800R performed well and it was sleek and sturdy and simple and small. So far great audio reports. Im all for the modular jacks easy to fix. The detachable face plate...so I dont have to leave it in the car rules too plus its little and portable. No heat issues ithor. Installation was a cinch couldnt be any easier. The manual easy to comprehend as well. Havent had it for long #so well see. Rating-5/5-Hopefully no update will be required~~~73
