I've had it about a month and it is great. Had some good qso's using the rubber duck antenna that comes with it. Also, I have a telescopic antenna and a base with suction cups so when I'm away I stick the antenna on the hotel window. Attach the coax to the antenna terminal and it sounds just like a base station. When in Orlando Fl ( I go there once a month to visit my son ) I have been able to hit every repeater in the area with 1.5 watts. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Had any problems with the battery ? Some have had problems with them holding a charge.

None at all. I bought 2 extras and I also bought their battery holder. I have put rechargable "AA" NiMH batteries in it and that worked just as well.

That's good. Maybe the dead batteries was just one of those things. Good news!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have a kenwood TH-K2AT also, but i had some problems with the microphone. It would key with no problem but with no modulation at all (maybe a bad mic.) I had to go all the way back to HRO to exchange it and found that other K2 ht were having the same problem. Otherwise the radio is great, i've had some great QSO on it and it seems like no matter what you do to the radio you can't kill it. Note test the radio before you leave the store to make sure it works.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I have had my K2AT for a couple of months, but have not been too impressed. CONS: 1) the factory antenna is horrible - but I think that is not uncommon for ANY HT; 2) they have a known phantom load problem that drains the battery when OFF. It was fixed after a certain s/n - check ARRL QST for more info - but even without that problem (I think I have been mod'd) it is a bit hard on batteries; 3) I accidently dropped it and the battery pack popped off...no damage though; 4) I think the controls/menus are difficult to use - but maybe that will change over time. I have an FT-530 and enjoy easy access and lots of controls. PROS: 1) Nice audio in and out; 2) nice feel - solid and holdable; 3) Wx alert; 4) good price for everything you get.

my two cents.
