Just to let everyone know and bring all up to date. Charles Groome "chuck" of Paris TX tried very hard to rip me off for $1200.00 . After constant emails and phone calls, all of a sudden, he disappeared. No contact of any kind. I got worried and posted an alert here on QRZ. I got all kind of replies from everyone here about previous problems. I filed complaints with the internet crime commision, then with the TX,OK, and MD attorney generals. WOW, did I get results. I instantly got emails from his wife and she ended up sending my radio and all docs with it. GREAT. His wife said she would make all ok and she more than did. She told me Chuck was on assignment and would not be back for a year. A friend from this website later informed me that Chuck was in Federal Pen in LA for charges brought on by Dish Network and Direct TV for illegal programming activities. He is now doing 18 months and received a heavy fine. Thanks to all who helped me in this. Great going guys, thanks. Jack WA3VZK

Well as his wife said it does appear that he is 'on assignment'. ;)

Will this scammer loose his license if he has 1..??
Just read this about Chuck Groome. Back in Feb, of 2010 I sold him a couple of 4X150A sockets. The deal went through without a hitch. I got a check from him that was okay. Guess I was one of the lucky ones!

Illegal programming activities? I am not familiar at all with satellite tv to even guess what he could have done, unless he worked for them, though something tells me that was not the case but either way it sounds pretty serious. Also, I would guess there were charges of other sorts involved since he was scamming on here.. he was prolly scamming all over.
Amazing that the wife was so cooperative! She was probably happy that she no longer had to stand by while her husband ripped people off. You were pretty lucky to get your stuff.

back in the earlier days of Directv there were gobs of sites and individuals that sold a little programmer that you could "overwrite" the Directv info on the smart card, eventually Directv sent down a "kill" data bit that corrupted the card---many people were caught heavily fined and some jail sentences issued.............it became so common you would have people approach you at flea markets selling the "gizmos"
