I want to replace my Sirio Gainmaster antenna, which is very high above the roof, with the diamond KV-5 verticval antenna.
Will this antenna work high up (roof mount) or does it have to be fixed close to ground level (requiring ground mounted radials).

FIRST, read the reviews (6) written by Diamond KV-5 vertical owners (and users)

Diamond KV-5 vertical antenna - Instructions for Assembly
http://www.thiecom.de/ftp/diamond/kv5/diamond-kv5-info-e.pdf

This KV-5 is a Multi-Band HF vertical antenna.
It APPEARS to be a QUARTER-WAVE / TRAP VERTICAL .... like the Hustler 5-BTV, Hy-Gain 18-AVQ II, and Cushcrfat AV-5 antennas.

PA1SBM notes that he talked to Diamond techncial support -- who adised him to ONLY gorund mount the antenna.
This is SAME INFORMATION in INSTRUCTION / ASSEMBLY manual. IF you did roof mount it .. then you likely will need radials (like ANY 1/4-wave vertical).

That was a pretty silly antenna comparison. Two completely different rigs, with very strong signals on both.

I'd consider that meaningless.

Or maybe a little less.:o
