Cool, I'm first to reply.

I have heard about this scam, but this is the first I've seen it in print. Most spammers seem to think I'm dissatifised with the size of my, er.... Anyway be sure to let us know if you get a response.

You get the spam and she gets what?

Not going there!

I think we all get those kinds of messages now and then.
I really like the Nigerian banking spam. That one, unfortunately, has potentially to really do harm!

"But I don't like spam!"
"Well, it hasn't got much spam in it"

I have a COLLECTION of Third World Banking Scam messages. I save 'em. They're very entertaining.

Still confused about why I have to send my account number, ABA number, routing number, Social Security number.... Hey, just cut me a CHECK for the $46 million. I'll do the deposit stuff FOR you. Haw...

The scam would be much more effective (on two-digit IQ types, at least) if we didn't all get at least FIVE of these a week. Even completely STUPID people don't fall for that scam at this point, yet the messages keep coming.

All jokes aside, a few posts express surprise that these emails and web scams continue. Along the same lines, women who use AOL or other instant message clients wonder why "men" continue to ask them "perverted" questions and/or make lewd requests and suggestions.

The reason is simple: they are successful often enough to be worth the time and effort.

That's something to think about, huh?

As I have said before, wish you guys would quit knocking Nigeria. I have made big bux off them. They said the check is in the mail. -----

I think the newest scam/spam I've seen said they had charged my credit card for some amount and if that was in error please contact them (with Name, Address, SSN and Credit Card number) so they could reverse the charges out of my account.

Right ......

You know, you don't want to reply to those. Most of the time, spammers send out random messages to every email address they can get their filthy little hands on. If you reply, then you confirm that your address is real. Hear comes the spam flood!

Walt, yeah, that's a real slimy one.

To add to what Josh says -- Many spam messages are sent without knowing if the target addresses are valid. When you reply, you flag your address as "good." The "good" addresses go on a SPECIAL list that spammers pay good money for. Never reply to spam. Never click the "unsubscribe" link!

In fact, you are better off DELETING suspicious messages without opening them. Some messages automatically take you to a link when you open 'em (whether or not you reply), and I suspect that causes your address to be verified as "good."

And I never ever EVER open a message with an attachment if it's not from someone I know, or if I'm not expecting it. I shift-delete (hard delete) them. That deletes them all the way -- no stopoff in the Trash folder. Gone.
