The other night my girldfriend who is an avid viewer of television shows such as "Trading Spaces", "Monster Garage" and "Monster House" tells me she posted a request to see a Monster Ham Radio House (http://discovery.infopop.net/1/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=6941912904&f=9811944156&m=1221929976) on "Monster House".

Can you just imagine what these guys would do?

If the producers need some ideas, they could go visit Joe Walsh. He's got a Collins room, a Hallicrafters room, a Heathkit room, a Drake room . . .

Man..you got a great lady. I am banned from the house. Unless they start making radios that look like toilet decor I can't sneak it in..but I do have the barn and the field behind..monster radio barn..call sign painted on the roof in 10 ft letters..legible at 40000 ft..one of these days...that'll work.

Man, at 40,000 ft., nobody is looking down probably. Keep those barn owls out of your radio room (and antennas)

Well, if they do a monster Ham Radio house, they are more than welcome to come to my QTH. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Callsign on the barn roof. Good deal. You never know when you are going to get an aeronautical mobile call. Those dont come very often.

A few years ago, my wife's niece brought around a nice young man she had met. #It wasn't long before she declared him to be the fulfilment of all of her Romantic dreams. #Everyone in the family loved the guy. #And then he saw my Amateur Radio station in operation...

He got both his marriage and Amateur Radio licenses the same week. #His call sign got assigned while he was on his honeymoon. #Before going to operate at Field Day, I left a message for him on his answering machine informing him of his call sign.

He made his first 2 meter QSO en route to Field Day, having stopped by the house after returning from the honeymoon, only long enough to check his answering machine. #And in the process, he made his bride feel abandoned. #Remember she is my wife's niece.

Within a month, he upgraded to Tech+ and spent loads of money on HF gear and station furnishings. #Then, he upgraded to Extra (20WPM) within a year, subsequently congratulating himself by spending even more money. #I say again: #His wife is my wife's niece.

One night about 4 years ago, he and his wife came to our house for a round of family board games. #My niece--yes, I claim her too--brought with her a small valise. #And in that valise were implememts of--at the time--undetermined consequence. #She introduced my wife to stamping art.

My wife started spending loads of money. #It's not just stamps; it's special paper, and inks, and even a decent hot-air gun. #It's out of town conventions, classes, and kafee klatches, even a Caribbean cruise!--I can't wait to go on one of those again! #

Now, at one end of the house, sits the lowly amateur station: #a truncated 12 x 10 foot room cluttered with transceivers, computers, tech manuals, magazines, bookshelves, operating desk, junk box, etc. #At the opposite corner of the house, is an even more cluttered 15 x 15 foot former dining room, stacked floor to ceiling with stamps (over 2000), papers, cutters, inks, etc. #My room is called N8CPA, I call her room Amy's revenge.

So if Monster House wants a real challenge, #THEY BETTER COME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could see it now, them hurrying to get the towers with stacked monobanders up at my "monster station (err... house)" before their deadline is up!

What a cool idea!!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I feel your pain Steve. My wife is a major scrapbooking and stamping fiend. Trust me, there's a lot more of that stuff here than ham gear. And she took over MY desk for her stuff too.

You have my sympathy and understanding.

Try living with a crafter.. Crosspoint, crochet, knit, etc, etc, and learning computers.
Patterns? You wouldn't believe it. Thread, yarn, and I never need a sixteenth of the book for computers that she has.

And, we are in a 500 square foot house!

We all have heard of the true ham who when his wife put her foot down and offered him the ultimate ultimatum, either the Ham Radios goes or she goes, with out hesitation he replied " it is going to seem different with out you around".
I had a friend who was not allowed space for his ham gear in the house,so he arranged the shelves in the hall closet such that he could put a chair in the hall and sit and operate, when his wife felt he had spent sufficient time operating she would come and close the closet door and remove the chair.
Marriage is such a wonderful institution, for those who want to be committed to an institution...... #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

N'er again, N'er again for me.
Two passes on that down, and from now on, it's "living together until...".
Done with kids as well.. I love them, but the liability is too darn high..
