http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif yep, heard a lot of "unlicenced ops " lower part of 10 meters ( k7pig should be interested in that for his research )...talked to one station and left...but it was fun !! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

This is exciting for me http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif - I have lots of crappy equipment/location and have always had really good luck on 10 meters.

Recently I've worked stations (mobile!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif in Japan, Australia, and the UK.

I worked N6GDS in Utah around 16:30 UTC today. My first 10 meter QSO since May. Here's hoping that along with the change in seasons will come enhanced 10 meter propogation.

Good DX to all,

Ten's been open daily for two weeks now.

Propagation for SSB signals lasts longer than for AM, and by the time I get home from the office, the AM signals are weak or gone, but lots of SSB and CW still coming through. Made a dozen contacts on 10m SSB last night, even after dark.

If the AM guys would keep their transmissions a bit shorter (I know this violates the old "AM rag chew" method of operation...), we could get in more contacts. It is discouraging to call an AM op and then have him transmit for ten minutes as the band fades out....

K7PIG is completely aware of the 10 meter activity from one location, thanks.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif one part of working dx stations ( fading in & out...flutter, etc )..is when there is ONE part of their I.D. that you do NOT get the first time, when you ask them to REPEAT it, even if they re-arrange the order, first name, location, especially the CALL SIGN, the flutter will return, and nearly always on the part you miss the first time ! It is just how things seem to be ( at least with me )...dunno why it is like that, but that is part of the FUN & adventure of working DX stations http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif ( keep the morse code requirement but do NOT ask why !!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif kd4amg

In the last 2 weeks, while /MOBILE (HTX-10, 25w, short CB whip) and commuting to and from work in MD, I've worked France, Poland, Cuba, St. John/USVI, and heard many others. My first Poland contact on any band, and with special event station SN25JP. Great time for 10!

10M is a FUN band - especially from the mobile station.

The 8-9 foot long whip is darn near a 1/4 wave on 10M ham band. As such it is pretty darn close to 50 ohms resistive AND tends to radiate fairly well - even for a mobile station.

Once it's matched to the transmitter for max power transfer, it can be (and is) a pretty good radiator!

10M is a great band.. if it's open 'just a little bit' then 100W will go 'a fur piece' in deed! If it's open 'pretty well' then 100W will go a 'reeely fur piece'. If its' REALLY open.. then 100W will go a 'REELY REELY LONG fur piece' and you can enjoy some darn good QSO's.

Plus, being the fact that 10M tends to have a decent groundwave propagation mode you can work the locals as well as the 'fur piece' folks!

A nice band!

I like to work my way up the bands. If 20 seems to be a bit quiet, I will check on 15, as well as the WARC bands, and 10. Usually I find that 10 is really cooking when 20 seems to be under-performing! Part of the fascination of ham radio!

It's nice to be able to "pick your distance" by frequency. These types of openings will get a little rarer in the months ahead as we continue down the "slippery sunspot slope" but there will always be enough activity to pleasantly surprise you at least once in a while.

So keep listening and calling . You never know who is going to return your call!

Just checking Ten Mtrs, calling CQ a few times on 29.010kc #AM.....no contacts. #So, I tune down toward the CW Beacons es hear a Cal. stn on USB, very strong.
28.600kc 2013z. #Continued tuning down es at 28.595kc #AM - two American truckers in So. Cal. chatting away ( they still were at 2038z ) Lamenting on how the Big Truck Co owners don't do any work themsleves, just the little guys.

If they were Hams, they never ID'd.

Twisting the dial a little further;

28.575kc #AM #spanish males
28.325kc #AM #very young spanish males
28.145kc #AM #Numerous spanish males
28.065kc #LSB #spanish males
28.075kc #AM #spanish males
28.000 #LSB es AM #spanish males

So, guess the Band is open.

Just worked KD6OS - Ralph. Sigs were weak but we got through. 29.010kc 2115z

Can not wait til next cycle..............................

Strong sigs on 28.345kc USB from Co. Not much on AM section as yet.

Just called U Tom, nothing yet on AM.
Seems to be just an enormous amount of truckers on 10 meters today heard from Arizona. Strange, no callsigns. Perhaps they have an exemption from Federal Law, I know, Mr. Hollingsworth might have said, their all ok to operate because, its their radio. This could be very true, now. Things change so rapidly in this new age.
