Actually that's been in the ARRL Handbook for a long, long, long time. It was originally written in the 1930's if I remember right. However, my XYL thinks there's an alternate interpretaton:

CONSIDERATE - Puts on headphones after waking her up at 3 AM to catch the DXpedition to Outer Slobovia.

LOYAL - Keeps all schedules, even if it means missing dinner.

PROGRESSIVE - Buys the latest gear no matter how much it costs, nor how much it will be used.

FRIENDLY - Will talk to people on the street about the joys of propagation, DXCC, DSP and SDR.

BALANCED - Knows where the US and UK is in the world, as well as Malyj Vysotskij and Tuvalu - and is not too prejudiced to talk to people in Malyj Vysotskij or Tuvalu, even if there are US or UK stations to talk to.

PATRIOTIC - Makes a concerted effort to talk to people in every single state in the US on all frequency bands.

I have no idea where she gets those ideas, though .....

KC9ECI actually when this was written most hams where balanced. With the wide spread use of coax in today's shack unbalanced is the norm today http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

PS I always thought this is a good code to live by.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif yep I have a copy in a frame , hanging on the wall by the frame that has a COPY of my license, and on the other side is a frame with a red tag that came with the old RANGER 2950 10 meter rig I used to own, I forget the exact words, but it mentions about needing a license to operate amateur radio equipment. ( like that has stopped others in the past ) Now I will have to UPDATE with the NEW info posted above ( more work ! ). But I would slightly modify the NEW part of " progressive to say " no matter how much it will or wont be used ". http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif But I DO try to go by these ideas. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'm inclined to say The Amateurs' Code was written by Clinton B. DeSoto around 1935 or so. I'm not sure, but he wrote the great history of ham radio "200 Meters And Down."

If you have never read that book, you should. I can't imagine being a ham and not being familiar with that history. Yes, it only goes up to the time it was written in 1936, but the basic foundation of amateur radio is there.

Some of you folks will possibly see ham radio in a whole new light once you've read it. If you don't, you're probably just on the bands to avoid paying a cell phone bill.

We have all read this but it seems that most just see it as some thing that isn't on the test so why bother.

The code needs to be brought to light more often, I think.

You'll still be able to USE this code, you just won't be TESTED on it! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It's just too old fashion! Anything written that long ago couldn't have any application for us today. Where does it say anything about Satellites, and Internet, and Digital modes? ? ? Huh, HuH HUH ? ? ?

As soon as I saw Paul Segal's name, I knew I should have known better.

Oh well, I'm old and getting older - day after tomorrow in fact. Hehe hehe.
