View Full Version : Classic Exchange (CX) and AM Discovery Weekend
The Classic Exchange (CX) and the AM Discovery Weekend will take place next weekend, September 26-29.
These are low key contests to encourage the restoration, operation and enjoyment of classic rigs #The details are available on the CX website http://qsl.asti.com/CX and in the August 2003 edition of ELECTRIC RADIO and in the September 2003 edition of QST.
There will be lots of activity on CW, SSB and AM and some DX stations joining the fun. #You don't need a classic rig to participate, jump in and enjoy the fun of working the classic rigs of our past.

Cool in 4 years my Icom 730 will be eligible in the classic exchange for full credit. Its 21 years old now. It came out the same year as the Commodore 64.
Which I think is funny because I'm sure most people don't consider the radio an antique since it has one memory, a cpu, neon display and it can operate in split mode.

Classic Exchange: Fun Fun Fun!!! I'll be on AM with the big tubes...a home brew Class-C 4-1000A plate modulated with 304TLs (the DX-100 is the grid RF drive tickler). I'll be on TEN (29) with the 4-element quad from noon to 3PM, 7.290 from 4-6PM, then on 20M (14.286) from 6-9PM with 3-element quad, then finish on 3880 after 9PM. Hope to hear any of you that read this...

Interesting. I've knocked around the idea of a boatanchor contest, didn't realize there already was one.
Good. I won't make this one but will be refurbing my Heathkits and Signal/One CX7A for a future CX.
Talked it over with a fellow who pointed out that his "new" design tube radio was only a few years old and would not qualify as a "Classic". It's his own design and even though it uses some old parts and NOS, it's really a 1990's radio, just using all tubes.
It's odd that my SB-104A or Signal/One CX7A are worth more "Classic" points than an all tube radio.

Well, I checked out 160, 80, and 40 Sunday morning with 6 vintage rigs. #Didn't hear a thing. #Sunday evening, there was the usual AM chatter on 75 but not a hint of CX. #I listened on all the other noted AM frequencies but no CX activity. #I worked a few station who were non-participating, so the rigs were OK, with nominal propogation. #Did I miss something?
