Sheree Greenwood (http://www.lyceumpress.com) writes "On May 6th, 2001, the first annual Ham Radio Event was held for Missing Children. This was sponsored by AMECO, Association of Missing and Endangered Childrens Organizations.

Over 130 contacts were made on the 20 meter band with just one operator (KB1BKK). The event was held in W.Warren, MA, home of abducted teenager Molly Ann Bish. Contacts were made from Canada to Florida, Iowa to Eastern France. The group is already gearing up for next years program.

ull story and photos can be seen at the Mission Child Special Event Web Page (http://www.lyceumpress.com/ham_radio.htm). QSL card pictured 3 missing persons and a composite picture of the man wanted for questioning in the abduction of Molly Bish. Molly's family attended the program and people in the midwest were alerted to story of child that was abuducted just days before the event from Indiana

Another station did attempt to hold special event station same weekend in Kansas but had to shut down due to severe weather. Next year we hope to have at least 3 stations operating in the U.S. and maybe a few in Europe and Africa."

We will again be holding a special event station for missing children on May 19,2002. Information is at Information on Missing Child Special Event Station (http://www.lyceumpress.com/ham_radio.htm)

We have increased our activities, will be in a more public place with at least 2 and possibly more radios during the event. If you are within driving range of Sturbridge, MA and would like to come in person , either to transmit or to watch, please e-mail me using links on website.

We have also started a club , KB1HGK, called Radio Operators for Children which hopes to continue to expand this event each year.
